Amos T. Akertnaii, one of the bo
scslaeags of the state, baa written a
letter in opposition to a convention.
— —■ —■
We understand that the convention,
w bicb met at Cutbbert laPt Saturday,
to nominate a ticket, opposed to con
vention, and to the democratic nomi
nees, nominated S. L. William*, of
Terrell. Judge Goff and Dr. Sale, of
Randolph, and Mr. Burnett, of Clay.
A good, assortment of Ladies Silk
lies at A. J. Baldwin & Co'a.
" A Question Easily Answered.
Judge Yason said, in his speech, the
other day, that there were a greater
number of men opposed to the conven
tion after the ugular nominations
were made, than there were before,
tad asked if this was the result of
disappointment in not being nominat
ed themselves. Are there any men
in Terrell Cos., who were in favor of a
convention befoie the nominations
were made and who oppose it now?
If so, what has changed tbeir viewed

Tkkbkll Cocntv, Qa , Jane 5,1877,
Messrs. Editors’. As you have re
quested me te keep you posted as to
the crops and other matters of impor
tance in this part of the county, I will
now comply with your request.
Crops are small, in this section, but
clean end in a healthy condition; but
we are very much in need of rai* ‘o
make them grow off.
You will pardon me for a few words
on the all-absorbing question ol “Coa
vention or No Convention.” There
is no tnan of sense that pretends to
deny that there are changes needed in
the p r eßent fundamental law of the state;
but, there seems to be a Want of con
fidence in some of the delegates that
we have selected to represent us in
the convention. Some object because
the principal part of our delegation
are lawyers. They are distrustful
that the needful retrenchments will
not be made by that class cJ men, as
they are regarded as a class of aspi
rants; as such, the people are vather
suspicious that they will not reduce
the salary of the officers, and the
number of officers; and that is regar*
ded by e largo class of people as very
essentia! to the future welfare of the
State.
Messrs. Editors, you are apprised
that this is a leap in the dark, and
the people have a right to demand of
their delegates what they propose to
do, by way of relieving them of the
excessive buidons of taxation.
You fecollect when the last legis
lature met, the cry was “retrench
ment and, how did they retrerch ?
By voling to the city of Savannah
$35 000 of the people’s money, and
to themselves seven dollars per day.
If this is what they call retrenchment,
God deliver as from such. fheii ac
tion reminds me very much of the
man who sheared the swine, who had
a great cry and got but little wool.
Such as this is one of the principal
causes of distrust. If the delegates
would speak out find let the people
know what they propose to do, it
would, in my opinion, allay the pres
ent distrust.
I am satisfied, in my own mind, tha'
the delegates intend to leave no stone
unturned where by they could benefit
thecitizensof Georgia. Todootherwise
would be a saerttb" of honor and
duty. Yours Truly,
Snider.
