Shuck s disclosure* as f ar as they go,
and reveals a great deal more crime

county week before last) was the head
man of the band, who swote the mem

of the la y win) was murdered by tiro
gang for fifteen dollats and u pistol,
as discovered by Shuck) is a member
of tlie band, and connived at the mur

that he was‘‘a haif-witied, blab-mouth

and might at any tune be the means
of bringing the band into trouble by
the inconsiderate uso of itis unruly
tongue.” A warrant was inmiu lately
issued for ti.is unnatural father, and
he w as attested and placed in jail tni>
morning among the test of the now
more than suspected felons. Cutter
also gives :lie name.-, of many other
members of ilia g ng—names not
given by Shuck—among the rest sumo
four or five residents of the village of
Loekport, on the river. In fine, Cut
ler coufiims the suspicioun ol th
community, as related in previous let
ters of this correspondence, and, nat
ttialiy enough, his disc’Os'tres have
added gteatly to ihe popular excite
ment, although that ex itenunt was
already at fever heat.
EiiisKxcK, August 22.—A b mb
burst yesterday tn ihe umls of the
six men arrested upon the strength of
Shuck’s confession. D.rve Cartel,
one of the gang, uttried State’s evi

declarations, with the ..dditten of bilg
ing Shuck himself more prominently

fit to do He guys tltat J e Goodrich
shot Parrish, but that Shuck Was pres
ent,- and ihat he (Caitei) assisted m
t arrying the body to the sfilioo iuitse,
wheie it was burned. The most start
ling part til the testimony is that John
James was himself ah accomplice in
ihe murder of Ins own son, having
said to Goodtic and o'hers of the
gang that they must teiieve him of
his son, or put him out of tDo way, as
lie, the stm, and the step-mother could
not get along together. James was
at res’6d, but released to app-sr a* a
witness.
Tu-day Joe Goodrich was held to
answer for the Bear robbery, and Boh
Goodrich, already held for that offense,
was again held to answer for the mur
der of the boy James. On Monday
the ccuit will go into the trial of all
six prisoners for the murder cf Gal i
ger, tire particulars of which Carter
will testify to. The excitement has
somewhat subsided, hut guards are
kept constantly at the jail, about the
j iimr’s oereon, to prevent surprise,—

On yesterday evening the city wits
startled by the report that a man and
two mules had been stiuck by- light
ning and killed near the Macon and
Biuitswick railroad depot. There
had been a slight local rain during
the afternoon, accompanied with some
severe lightning and heavy claps of
thunder.
Go leaching the scene wo found
tlie report in a great measure veri
fied. Out ttear the depot in a portion
of the miy known as Tyoee, and in
habited ui'istly bv ne. t o was the
scene of ihe occurrence. It was found
that the lightning, had struck a negro
named of John franklin and two it ules.
At the lime of the flash John
Ftut/lin Was (’.living a drav o f the
Macon and Brunswick railroad, and
had just started to the swamp to pro
cute a load of wood. Ihe rain was
falling gently, hut not enough to pte
vent work. All in aa iriSfart, while
he was standing on the dray, the flash
came and at. trek the uniortunat* tnati
and killed the two mules instantly.
From an eye witness who happened,
to he looking just at the instant ami
not fifty yards distant, we leatn that
Franklin, when struck, fell bead lung
from t! e dtay, striking the ground on
the right side t l the vehicle his head
stiiking firs'. Thu mules dropp din
their tracks, falling outward wit 1 -
their feet end t o*es together.
There are some peculiar circumstan
ces connected with the occunence
which are quite remarkable. The
place whole the team w s struck was
in the middle of a narrow st.eet, with
houses on each side, some filteen to
twenty fee higher than the head 1
ihediiver. The mu es were moving
at the time, confirming the theory tltat
moving bodies ate more apt to be
.-buck than st&iiuiiary ones. The
man was stricken down and ilia mules
kill and m the draiy ans absolutely im
injuted.
Toe crown of the negro man’s hat
was torn to pieces, especially so on til e
tigiit hand si In i.s worn. The tight
leg of his i tnlahatns was shredded
ami ti e whole front of the sltoeou Ins
right foot was completely tom away
stnl the alt ob itself taken off his foot.
- The mules shorted no marks ol the
electric fluid At lust accounts tho
man was s-il! alive, hut wiithing with
agony ami gioauiag incessantly. The
scene was visited by upwards of twelve
hundred persona during the afterroon.
A solemnity at the sudden visitation
seemed to be on all. Tlieuitt’es wore

are now tea mit:g with the best crop of

and w hile the price lor that por.ion of

order is pretty good, yet by far the
largest and best part of the crop can
not he marketed at all, except it is

well dried peaches as easily as lit*
could ten bales Of i often or twenty

the same in weight, und the poaches
