Deap. Journal:—The first bright
morn of the New Year whs fraught
with an eventful and joyous episode
in the career of your worthy’ and ex
cellent Local, Mr. U. L Weston.-
On this, the first day of the year 1878,
the marriage rites were solemnized
between bimself and the “idol of his
heait, Miss Mittie, the estimable and
accomplished daughter of Air. Smith
Davenpoit, of Webster county, Ga.
The happy event had been eagerly
anticipated by the confidential friends
of the gallant groom; and on the
auspicious morning, a number of bis
well-wishers and acquaintances from
Dawson, and many of the fair bride’s
relatives and friends of Webster and
from Americas, assembled at the
hospitable mansion of Mr. Davenport
to witness the joining of the silver
bands. Rev. J. IV. Weston, cousin
of Air. 1 . L. I\ estou, was the ’officia
ting minister who utteredjhemagical
words which bound two hearts and
lives together, and made of “the twain
one flesh.”
A more impressive or appropriate
marriage ceremony we have never
heard, or one that evoked from the
groom a more hearty or more earnest
response. At the conclusion, while
the pair waited on bended knee, the
Reverend gentleman offered up a very
pathetic prayer to the Great Author
of marriage, beseeching His richest
and peculiar blessings on the newly
wedded couple, imploring His divine
guidance to lead them gently adown
the vale of life, and to direct their
footsteps into the paths of peace.—
Alany and sincere were the conerratu
lations extended to Air. Weston and
his fond bride ; for we all believed
that he bad found a treasure’and won
a pearl of great price; while she had
wedded a deserving gentleman, and
found a true and devoted husband to
cherish and protect her.
After the Gordian knot was tied,
and the congratulations were spoken,
the bewitching bride and her “guid
mou” led the way to the dining hall,
followed by the bridal party, where a
most beautiful and captivating colla
tion was spread, to which we all did
ample justice, especially oUr* friends
whose initials are Speight Baldwin
and Sam Loyless. With a dinner
composed of exquisite viands, and
till the delicacies of a refined cuisine
the appetites of the most fastidious
epicure could not fail to have been
thoroughly Sated. “Tile happy Two”
thus early illustrated the aphorism
that is not well that we should live
by love alone, hut that sensible newly
married people could partake of the
bounties of a well laden table with
as much ease and .grace as other in
dividuals. The "subject of a good
and bounteous repast is one on which
we are inclined to dilate; but we
must refrain aud forbear on this oc
casion. Suffice it to say, that
the dinner was appreciated and en
joyed bv all present; mirth, hilarity
and good humor reigned supreme,
and all went merry as a marriage
bed —(or married belle.)
After consuming a short while spent
in passing the compliments of the
season, our party hade adieu to our
genial host and hostess, Air. and Airs.
Davenport, and to our newly formed
acquaintances in Webster; the bride
and her voting husband said “good,
live” to loved ones, and we set out
on our return trip to Dawson, where
we arrived as the shadows ol the
new year’s sun were lengthening into
close of the day.
For many a long year will we re.
call the pleasant moments spent on
this hymeneal occasion of Mr. and
Mrs. U. L. Weston. We sincerely
hope for them that their bark may
glide gently on o’er the tide of time,
sweetly wafted by the inspiration
of softest zephyrs. May their life
be—
“ The spirit of a lovely sound,
A living voice, a breathing harmony.
Is the fervent wish of
Their Staunch Friend, P-
Dawson, (fa., Jan. 3, 1878.
