j Cut it Down.—We have been
, requested to call the attention of the

Hon. Wm. Kaigler informs us that
. the grain crop in the 11th and 12th
de-tric s this year, is more than 100
per cent, greater than i was last year.
A short visit to the 4th and oth dis
tricts recently evinced about t* e same
results. The prospect is indeed flat
tering, and if the farmers have no
disasters to befall their small grain,
they will be 0. K. in the fall.
Don’t Forget the Fair. —Let eve
rvbody remember that we are to have
a Terrell county Spring Fair at Daw
son on the 4th day of May, next* It
iH earnestly desired that all our peo
ple take an interest in the matter.—
Br.ng out your fine stock of all kinds,
flowers, vegetables, fruits and every
thing else that will add to the exhi
bition. Remember that it is to cost
you nothing, save the trouble of pla
cing articles on exhibition. People
of Terrell county, let’s unite on that
day and have a good time once more.
A Roving Miscreant.— We have
been informed that, on Wednes
day night of last week, a ramb
ling negro entered the premises of
Mr. T. B.Spcight, beat some negrochil
dren, se zed the dinner that was being
preprepared and ran oft’ with it. That
evening the negro men on the place
pursued him witti a pack of hounds,
but failed to catch him. It would
be well for the good people general
ly to watch their premises closely,
for tli ere are a number of worthless
negroes, as well as trifling white
nen, roving through the country,
who should be looked after and
brought to justice. Let a hint suf
fice.
Sad Death.— This week it becomes
our sad duty to chronicle the death
of Capt. S. G. Evans, which occurred
at his home, in t is county, on last
Monday. The deceased, an hour be
fore his death had carried a heavy
piece or timber upon Ins Bhoulde
some dis’.ance, and it ia supposed that
in throwing the wood from his shoul.
der, he received internal injuries,
which terminated his life in less than
an hour Cap’ain Evans was a quiet
peaceable, law-abiding citizen, and his
loss will be felt by the entire county
His remains were deposited at Brown
Station on yesterday, wi*h Masonic
honors.
Married. —On Tuesday morning
last, at 9 o’clock, Air. I). J. Ray, for
merly of Dawson, but now a promi
nent young merchant of Conyers,
tJa,, and Aliss Alollie AY. Geise, eldest
daughter of Air Reuben Ccisc, were
married at the residence of the bride’s
father—Rev. R. W. Dixon, officiating.
The newly married couple left on the
11 a. ji train for their home, accom
panied by a few friends as far as
Smithville.
Dempsey, old boy, here’s our hand.
We extend to you and your noble
bride our best and sincerest wishes.—

lean skyes of bliss ever be your ca. -

O.ucaoized. —AVo learn that a Sab
bath School was organized at Salem
Church. miles southeast of Brown
Station, last Sunday, with 23 mem
bers. Several efforts have b en made
to organize a Sunday school at the
above named church, with but little
encouragement. This is not as it
should be, for Salem is situated in one
of the best and most intelligent neigh
borhoods in the county, and we see
no good reason why a flourishing
school cannot be successfully carried
on, for, as a gentleman informed us.
if a “rat-kdling” is announced, mare
than 25 boys can be mustered up,
which is a -atheient number tor an
interesting school. Friends in the
vicinity of Salem church, go to woik
and build up your Sunday school; we
bid ou God speed, and, with such
indefatigable gentlemen as Elam
Johnson and Floyd Lawhon as sup
erintendents, we believe Salem church
Sunday School will be successfully
engineered, and good rusults will
certainly follow.
Burned to Heath.— We have
i been informed that a negro child on
! the plantation of Mr. Thomas Martin
in the Otli district of this county, was
| burned to death about three weeks
ago, while its mother was in the
fi Id plowing. Two weeks later, as
the same woman was out engaged in
the field, she heard a scream of dis
tress, and went to the house to find
that another one of her children’s
clothing had caught on fire, which
burned the child so severely that it
died in a few hours af er. In nearly
every newspaper we read of similar
accidents to negro children who have
been locked in doors while their
ihothevs are at work or loafing around
die neighborhood. If the miserable
wretches desire to murder their little
ones, let them devise some other ’
means of destruction, for, in our
opinion, burning is the most horrible
punishment that could possibly be
inflicted.
To Gin Owners.— We call special
attention of gin owners to the notice
of Messrs. Brown A Rogers. They
are prepared to repair gins and make
them nearly as good ns new.
