A County Barbecue. The citizens of Terrell being blessed with abundant crops, are talking about having a grand county barbecue at the fair grounds, or somewhere else, soon. We have been requested to call attention to the matter, and to suggest that all persons who will take an interest in it meet at the Court-lmuse, on the first Saturday in August, to make necessary arrangements. The Agri cultural Society meets on that day, and the matter can then be discussed and decided. The second Saturday in August has been mentioned as a suitable time. What say you, far mers ? Tlie Christian Index and Bap tist, Atlanta, Georgia, is one of tlie old established and able papers of tlie Baptist denomination. It has not a superior, it an equal, in the essential features of appropriateness of size, excellence of make-up, and the abilr ty an*l acceptability of its editorial management. The publishers make an important announcement propos ing to send The Index to .Tantiaiy, 1870, for $2. They can only afford to do this by a large increase of their subscription list. As the organ of the Baptist denomination, it should be the pride of Baptists everywhere ! to give The Index united, active sup ! port, and we will be pardoned for saying we trust every reader of The Journal will extend tlie fullest en couragement to The Index. Anthony has just received anew lot of ladies j ties, bows, niching lace collars and cuffs fans, chatelaines, lace mitts, kid cloves, pearl buttons, valencenes lacef Fav irsets. coral setts chip hats, straw and leghorn flats, bonnet frames, etc. Our I' ro rpocvt;. II bile waiting far some accident or marvellous occurrence to - happen which we might chronicle as an item of news, we fell to musing and reflec ing on the prospects of our lowu and county, and we found so much encouragement in our meditations that v. e are constrained to give publicity to them. First as to our county : we congrat ulate our citizens upon their fl ittering pros pects for an early return to the days of p'enty aud prosperity. The crops are uni versally good up to this date, and our for mers, are in better spirits than for several years. Lands in our county are appreciating in value, and a number of buyers are to be found. Wkhiu the past year several new comers have settled in our count), and all are excellent and clever people and make good citizens. We hear of others who an ticipate procuring homes in our midst, aud uniting with us in continuing Terrell as the banner county of this section of the state. We cordially welcome them. For several seasons past ot r town has not erjoyed that degree ol prospeiity which we could desire. This has been attributed mainly to the very severe pressure of the times, and the general monetary scarcity. Other causes, too, have conspired to dis hearten and detrimentally effect us. Happily for us now, these causes have aboit t been removed, and considerable reaction is taking place. The public pulse is beating more strongly, and a better state of things is just ahead and in store for us. Our citizens are hopeful and determined, and Dawson is on rising ground. Our merchants are preparing to do a big business the approaching season, and will lay in heavy stocks of goods, about which our readers will hear through the columns of tee Journal. We learu that several new stores will be opened in a -hort while in our place wdh experienced salesmen at their heads. We are glad to state that Mr. T. J. Hart w.il proceed to complete bis rew brick block containing two spacious stores on the first floor, and a large hail on the second floor. These will be quite an accession to our city, and furnish a splendid city hall. In warehouse line our place is well up, as we shall have five in full blast, conducted by men of business tact and anergy. These will furnish man) inducements to farmers to bring cotton to our market, where a numb r of buyers will be found to pay the highe t market price for it. Ok r town, morally and socinlly, is abreast with any in the state. The educational ad vantages offered by our schools are of a superior sort, and we heartily commend them to all. The beathfulness of our little city is proverbial, and the cost of living here is as cheap as any town in Georgia. We do not desire to be too sanguine; but we certainly believe that better and more prosp“rous times me in the near future. Let us all hop,: so and determine to realize the fact. We say three cheers for our stirring and sterling county and town, and may the dawn of peace, plenty and prosperity be acceler ated. He turned. Mr. O. B. Stevens and family, who have been oil a visit to relatives in Eastern Georgia, returned to their home in this city on last Friday. A pleasant trip is reported. Mr. Stevens as you till know, is the junior member of the warehouse firm ot Dozier & Stevens, and while off, he combined business with pleasure, and went down to Savannah to perfect all arrangements to furnish his customers with bagging and lies tit reduced pri ces. This will doubtless be good news to the farmers Mr. assisted by bis clever partner, Mr. N. W. Dozier, is using his every ef fort to build up a first-class warehouse business in our city, and by stiict personal attention to business and fair dealings with the fanners, they hope to merit and receive a large share of patronage. A communication signed “Mitch ell.” was received too late for this is sue. ♦ mm ■ An Undeniable Truth.
