Some time since we had occasion
to mention Dr. W. C. Paschal’s sev
cm acre patch of upland corn, which
is within the corporate limits of this
city. The corn was gathered last
| Buesday and measured forty-five
[ bushels per acre. Now, we call that
J good fanning. The Doctor made
j enough corn on seven acres to run a
tom- or five horse farm another year.
A ho can beat it ? Trot in your fan
ey patches, all ye fannes, and cortt
: pare with the Doctor. Last year lie
made, on a one horse farm, eighteen
hales of cotton. This year lie will
make at least twenty bales on ihe
same farm. Again, we ask, who can
beat it ? The corn and cotton was
all raised within the corporate limits
of Dawson. The Doctor is otir next
candidate for Governor.
Mr. Allen Lowrey, another one of
our citizens, is a good farmer. He
will make, on a one horse farm,
over fifteen biles of cotton. This is
firstrate farming, but not so good as
Dr. Paschal.’s
We advise our young farming
friends, of Terrell county, who are
dissatisfied with the poor lands of
this section, and want to take the ad
vice of Horace Greely and “go west,”
to call on Dr. Paschal and learn a
lesson.
New Buggies.
Gome all ye weary and heavy
taxed people with old wornout Bug
gies unto Judge 11. Rogers, and he
will give you rest in a celebrated
I.andls Buggy. The Landis Buggy
is given up by all parties that have
used them to be the best, neatest and
most durable Buggy ever used in
this country.

Tobie & Rusticus.
Ths controversy which has been going on
in our paper for Iho past fvw weeks betwien
“Tobie across the’ine” and “Rusticus” which
commenced in fun, but was about to proceed
to a mia-uinderst,ending, has been adjusted in
a manner honorable and satisfactory to both
parties. The cor’espondenee between them
in reaching this adjustment will be published
next week.
The Concert Monday I light.
Professor J. W. Beardslee, of Andrew Fe
male Cos l> *e, generously came over and gave
a music I entei tainmem. at the Court-house
oil last Jfotniay night, half of ihe proceeds
of which was given for the benefit of the
vel'ow fever sufferers.
We are sorry to sav that the audience in
attendance was small, put can truthfully say
that the entertainmeut was the best of the
kind that we eve- attended, and this is the
testimony of every one who attended. We
.re not sufficiently acquiinted with music-to
speak critically of the performance, but can
sav tha' we never saw an audience better
rntertaiued than on that evening The pro
fesso:|- powers as a vocalis are surelv extra
ordinary. To bear him sing “In the sweet by
and by,’—the last piece sung, is alone worth
the sum charged for admittance The pro
gramme Was vtried consisting of sacred;
sentimental and humot-us pieces There
was nothing dull in the whole performance.
The atti-ution and interest of the audience
was caught at the first note and held u the
very last.
It. was the wish of many that, the Professor
would remain and give another conceit on
tee following night, this he could not do,
but p omised to return sometime in the
fu'tire. We think we can safely promise
him a full house when he returns.
Protessor Beardslee will teach music in
Andrew Female College, commencing
wiih the session that opens to-day. We
congratulate Dr. Hamit-on, President of that
institution, in securing the services of one so
evidently well qualified or the position.

Smithville, Ga., Sept. IG.
Messrs. Editors: On the 13th inst.,
Ihe Vfuckilee Club, of Lersburg, and the
Pi ce ox Chib, of this place, played a mutch
game of base ball here upon the grounds of
the laoer. A' the close of the game a victory
was declared for the Phcsnix in a score of 52
to 38. Mr. James Dodson filled with ciedit
to himself, as well as to the entire satisfac
tion of ail, the poition of Umpire. The
game was a very pleasant one. A majority |
of the members ol both clubs, to jse a plain
term, were green uu to the rules of the game
T h e pitying of Messrs. Terry, Ware and
Scarbrough is worthy of mention as being
very fine for amateurs. We ask to be ex
cused for this special mention, as wc do so
without any disparagement to the other j
plavera, for they all did well, considering
their inexpe'iettce, etc.
Our littie ’ourg is thriving, there being at
present a verv fine school in progress, presi- !
ded overby Prof. W. W. Kennedy. Our .
merchants are living in large stocks of j
good*. The health of our people has, lor
some time past, been quite poor, but we are
hippy to say that it is last improving; in fact
we know of no case now where the party is j
confined to bed. ELGIN.
The Stepping Stone to Health.
The acquisition of vital energy is the -tep- ,
ping stone to health. When t.e system
lacks vitality, the ra ious organs fl ig in j
their duty, become chronic illy irregular, and
disease is eventually instituted- To pre
vent this unhappy state of things, the debili
tated system should be built up by the use
of that inimitable tonie, Hostetter’s Stora- ,
ach 3itters which invigorates the digestive j
organs, and insures the thcrougn conversion
of food into blood of a nourishing quality,
from whence every muscle, nerve and fiber
acquire unwonted supplies of vigor, and the
whole sy-tem experiences the beneficial ef
fect. Appetite returns, the system is refresh*
ed by healthful slumber, tbe nerves grow
strong and claim, t'-e despondency begot
ten of chronic indigestion and an uncertain
state of health disappears, and that sallow
appearance of the skin peculiar to habitna
invalids, and persons defioittnt in vital ener
gy, is replaced by a more becoming tinge.
