B Crim is still receiving his large stook of goods from New York, which he offers cheap for cash Jew Johnston, who now sells calico and other goods in Macon, was in the city Saturday, and looking—handsome. Every business man ought to use neat ly printed letter heads. We are pre pared to furnish them at low prices. The workmen are hammering away on the city hall. Newberry, his mother and her family have removed to Albany. \\ e regret to loose them from our midst, and hope the change will be both pleasant and profitable. Judge W. T. Campbell is a candi date for re-election to the office of tax receiver and collector, subject to a dem ocratic nomination, if one is held. Bee announcement in another column. Three candidates, for the same office, asked us, last Saturday, to vote for them. If there’s any clause in the con stitution allowing editors to vote three times, we will most cheerfully support all three of you, gentlemen. Mr. Thos. J. Mills, who is telegraph operator at Bowling, Ala., returned to! his home, in this county last week. lie has been quite sick for several days past, but, we are glad to learn, is im proving. Yes, we are decidedly in favor of greenbacks, and hope all those indebt ed to us for subscription will come for ward and hand it over to us or the old gentleman who boards on Mother side of this paper. We learn that La Fayette Cole, aged about fifteen, who lives in the 12th dis trict, was caught between the lever and cap-sill of a sugar mill, last week, which fractured his skull and otherwise bruised him. He is now in a critical condition, but hopes of his recovery are entertained. Miss. Sallie has sent us another let ter for publication, in which she “goes for” that dry goods clerk who waits up on lady customers in his shirt sleeves, and urges its publication, but, for reas ons satisfactory to ourselves, we decline to print it. If Miss Sallie wants to abuse said dry goods man, we advise her to address him in person. Air. Wm. E. Sessions is a candidate for tax receiver and collector. See an nouncement. Within the past month we have ad ded quite a number of new subseibers to our already large list. The Journal has a circulation that will compare fa vorably with any weekly paper pub lished in the state; and still, we can accommodate a few more. Hand in the two dollars and you will receive the paper. Dawson is receiving all the cotton that legitimately belongs to her. The buyers here are paying the highest market price for the staple, consequent ly, it will not pay our farmers to carry it elsewhere. Besides, our merchants are offering extra inducements to the trade. Come to Dawson one time, all ye who have not done so, and we feel sure you will be pleased with our market. Air. Charlie .Towers, who is employed on Air. J. W. Keith’s place, while feed idg a cotton gin last Thursday, acci dentally stuck his right hand against the saws while they were in motion, and received several painful wounds on the hand and arm. This is another warn ing. Don’t be careless while working at" a gm. It’s dangerous. Two or three years since, about a dozen of our citizens were almost disabled for life with cotton gins. In another column will be found the announcement of Air. AY. R. Baldwin for tax receiver and collector, subject to a democratic nomination. Air. Bal dwin is too well known as an honest, capable gentleman to need any comment from us. If elected he will make a faithful officer. Mrs. M. M. Anthony, the fashionable milliner of Dawson, announces to her friends and patrons, in this issue, that she has received her stock of Fall and Winter Goods. Her stock is complete and of the latest and most fashionable kind, and her prices are low. She in vites all the ladies of the town and country to call immediately and exam ine and price her goods. She is confi dent that she can please them, both in goods and prices. Notice the array of nice things in her advertisement, and then go and see the goods. Huge Ratlesnake. Our young friend, W. S. Dozier, in forms us that, on last Monday, a large rattlesnake was discovered near his res idence. Mrs. D., accompanied by several young ladies, gathered up all the guns, pistols, and other fire-arms on the place, and made war upon his snakeship. Af ter several shots had been fired, a shout of victory for the ladies was heard. The snake measured over five feet long, had eight rattles and a boll of cotton on its tail. Personal. We had a call on yesterday from Mr. J. N. Smith, of Memphis, Tennessee, and arc indebted to him for a number of Memphis papers. Mr. Smith left his home on account of yellow fever and will return as soon as he thinks it safe to do so, which he hopes will be by the 15th instant. He was married on the 10th of September to Miss Lula Cliett, of Houston County, but who has been, for some time, on a visit to friends in this county. The ceremony was per formed by the Rev. M. B, L. Binion, at the residence of Mr. T. H. Reddick. A mistake iu our announcement of last j week calls for this corrected notice. Alks. C. I. Alizi: begs to return sincere thanks toiler old friends and customers for past patronage, and to inform them that she will resume lwt millinery business on Alonday, the 7th instant. - Cotton-pickers still “hold the fort.” A good deal of the fleecy stuff is in the fields. National Surgical Institute. One of the staff of this old and nota ble Institute will visit Dawson, Ga., Oct. 23rd, 1878, stopping at the Hotel. The object of this visit is to give the afflicted an opportunity for examination at or near their homes, thus saving hopeless cases the expense of a trip to Atlanta. A careful examination will be made, and patients can learn if their cases are curable or can be benefited, and whether it will be necessary for them to visit the Institute. In such cases as can be cured, or treatment be gun at home, arrangements can be made with our visiting Surgeon, and treat ment commenced at once. Examination free.
