'T im , Excellent Breakfast. —He was drunk and called at Jones & Sharp’s restaurant for breakfast. Seating him self at the table, he was soon asleep. — The proprietors of the restaurant, who, as usual, had a streak of mischievous feeling, placed the dishes which had just been used around the iutoxicated man, who soon awoke and called for his bill.’He had not eaten a mouthful, but said it was the best breakfast he had had in many days, and promised to pay for it so soon as he got the money. “Crazy Bill.”— This negro man, who, we believe, has been adjudged in sane, is allowed to roam abont our town. On last Sunday night • while Mr. and Mrs. A. J Pride were asleep, this ne gro made his entrance into their room, for what purpose we do not know.— When Mr. P awoke the insane man was standing near and leaning over him. 31 r. P. caught the man by ilip throat and was in the act of shooting him when Mrs. P. reminded him that it might be “Crazy Bill.” Sure enough, it was, but before this fact was known, Mr. I’, had given him a severe beating. “( ra zy Bill” ought to be taken up. Admit ing that he is innocent of crime and as harmless as a dove, lie can frighten la dies “out of their wits” by entering their chambers at night. The Election in Terrell. The people in this county evidently tell but little interest, in the election last Tuesday, as the vote of the coun ty was only 380, of which Smith got 3G6 and Wade 14. The Jowti district cast about 300 |of these votes. About twenty-five ! negroes voted in the county, four teen of them for Wade and the oth j ers for Smith. The election was very quiet and dull. If it had not been sale day, and some wild land to be sold, the vote would probably have been much smaller. New Arrivals—MilMnery. She has in stock a nice assortment of fine hats for Ladies and Misses ; also, cheaper grades. She earnestly solicits the patronage of the ladies generally. Oranges, Lemons, Coenamus. Ap ples. To the Voters of Terrell County : In order to correct certain false re ports which have been put in cumulation to injure me, I take this method of say ing to you that as I was not Tax Re ceiver during the years 1875 and 1876, I am not responsible for tin errors in the Digest for the wo years aforesaid, and that in every instance where par ties have come to me complaining of mistakes in the Digest for 1877, I have shown the numbers of their lots of land to be entered on my books just as they were given in by them. Repectfully, W. T. Campbell, Nov. 5, 1878. Tax Receiver. P H. Procter — We ask the atten tion of our readers to the advertisement of Mr. P. 11. Editors Journal: The country folks think that the Hessian fly will injure our prospects for a wheat crop this winter. Plow up the land deep; take off every thing that they can hide under and we will succeed. B A. T e above timely warning is from an old and experienced farmer of our county. He says that the flies are more numerous this fall than he has ever known them to be, which fact he attributes to the abundance of gr ss. If the grass and other trash in the field is thoroughly turned under by the plow so as to leave them no place of shelter the frosts will kill them. Weston, —fttr.- As I leave for my home in Memphis, Tenn., to- j morrow, I desire to express to you and i through you to the good people of Daw- j son and vicinity, my best and sincerest j wishes for the kindness and courtesy shown tne while in your midst. I hope again to visit Terrell aod its kind-heart- I ed people,'but under more favorable j auspices than fleeing from a yellow fey-1 er epidemic, though I know I have \ 1 profited By the visit, as I carry back 1 with me, as I think, one of Georgia's ; brightest jewels, Miss Lula Cliett, as i iny wife. In tiie language of the iin ; mortal Bip Van Winkle, may you all ! live long and he prosperous, is the sin cere wish of your friend, J. N. Smith, • of the M. A T. R. 11., MiupUis, Tenn. Powers, Ga., Nov. 5, 1878. Wo regret very much the departure of Mr. J. N. Smith and his interesting lady. The few months they spent with us will always be held in remembrance dear, and we hope that they will grant us the pleasure of seeing their merry faees among us again. They were ac companied by Miss Annie Cora Richie LcYcrt Reddick, who leaves for the purpose of entering the high school in Memphis. She is an intelligent child, and although it was a severe trial for the parents to give up one so young, they must be cheered by the thought that she will return to them much im proved, or at least, we hope so. Mr. and Mrs. Smith’s return to Memphis is no doubt ming’ed with pleasure..and sadness, for while only a few of their; warm friends remain, many are sleep ing their last sleep—having fallen by the bite epidemic. Many of their friends made a sacrifice of their lives relieving the suffering of others. May Heaven s richest blessings ever at tend our friends, r and Mrs Smith during tlii shortlife; and when life's fitful dream is over, may they awake in the regions of eternal bliss is the sin cere wish of A Friend. The Tel. and Mess, cal's it a large snake; but Unc e E’ija Bell flower ca s a snake of such dimensions a small affair: LARGE RATTLESNAKE. On Saturday last a gent email in Early county sent to Col. Thomas Hard eman a large rattlesnake. Not having any special use for the snake, it fell into the hands of Mr. Sam Waxelbaum. It was on exhibition at his place of busi ness yesterday. About three o’clock several gentle men concluded to make the snake a martyr to science, and treated it to chloroform. The drug was administer ed first through a stream, and then by means of a saturated sponge applied to the mouth of the snake. Til about six minutes he was asleep, when lie was easily killed Measurement showed a length of four feet and nine inches, and his candal ex tremity was adorned with ten rattles and a button. The body was seven inche and a half in circumference. It was hung up yesterday afternoon and attracted considerable attention, awa ening from the hoarded treasury of tne memory or imagination of many some of the most marvelous of snake stones.” Ile-Opening a Thoroughfare* lii o ■ ’'tiiM r -iiif.s lit or!v smdv*' -v> and i it i ab'-oluwly essential ihHM-'-p fr i .ornugbftr* or avenue of t.b,* tv ■ ‘it, 'd * boweU, Hhoul-I be re :t wp..p tj \ when ihevhecouie ob BfruiMed.
