Wb, the Grand Jury, chosen and
sworn lor the first week, November
Term, 1878, of Terrell Superior Court,
beg Jenve to offer the following, aa our
QBNERAI. PRESENTMENTS :
"H e thank the Almighty Giver of all
good for Ilis beneficence in bestowing
His bounties ujion us in propitious sea
sons and bountiful harvests; and we
are gratified to know that we are mar
king progress in our efforts to reach a
state of independence by raising all
needed supplies at home. To this end
*c earnestly recommend a continuation
of these efforts by sowing small grain
in abundance and raising stoek.
Pl Bl.ir ROADS AND BRIDGES.
The public roads and bridges through
out the county are in good condition,
and we cosumend the commissioners
overseers of roads for their diligence
iu the discharge of their respective duties
PI'BMC BUILDINGS.
We find the Court House and Jail in
good condition, except that the roof of
the former is notgoodjby reason of rotten
shingles, and that the Jail needs new
steps iu front. We recommend that
the Court House be recovered and that
other slight repairs needed on windows
and steps be made. We also find that
the jail fence needs some repairs, and
the cook and dining room needs under
pining.
PI'BI.IO RECORDS.
Through a special committee from
this body we have made a careful and
thorough examination of the Public
Records of the county (except those of
the Clerk, which we have not had oje
portunity to examine,) and the result
of the investigation is highly gratifyiug,
the condition tf the books being such
as to reflect much credit on the officers
in whose care they have been placed.
The records in- the Ordinary’s office
are kept in a style hardly possible to be
surpassed anywhere. Notwithstanding
the remarks of his Honor, Judge Hood,
in his charge to this body, in which he
referrea to the stereotyped phrase so
often used, “We find them neatly and
correctly kept,’’ we are constrained to
say that the books of the Ordinary
are without blot or blemish, all office
papers neatly arranged and labeled,
and all matters of record so accurately
ixdcxed that hut a few minutes are
needed to find and read all proceedings
in any particular case. We notice that
he keeps a docket of applications which,
though required by law, has not been
before kept in the office for several
years. He also keeps a record of pau
pers, showing the fiaine, sex, age, color
of each, date of admission and dismis
sion from the Poor House.
The books of the County Treasurer have
also had our careful examination, and
we find them to be in a satisfactory condi
tion, showing that the Treasurer is effi
ciently performing his duties. His
books and vouchers show a small bal
ance in his favor at the time of his
final settlement with the Collector for
last year.
We have likewise examined the
Dockets of the several Justiees of the
Fence and Notaries of the Public, all
of which arc kept according to law.
The Sheriffs Doeket and Jail Record
we find kept in a neat and accurate
manner, with all costs properly item
ized and accounted for. We congr.itu
late the county in having the services
of such acceptable and efficient officers
as Sheriffs Christie and Roberts.
Tbt Tax Digest for this year shows
that manp tax-payers have given in
their projierty at what we think is less
than its market value, and the Receiv
er informs us that in almost every in
stance where referees were selected, as
the law requires, the valuation was
fixed at figures less than the estimate of
the owner. In consequence of this,
and partly from other causes, the
amount of taxable property of this
county this year is about $1 (>2,000 00
less than last year. We regret to not
ice this, and we urge the Receiver for
the succeeding year to make every ef
fort to get a fair and just valuation of
property, and thus burden of
taxation to be borne equally by all.
The Collector reports slow progress
in the collection of taxes, and the time
for payment has almost expired. We
call upon tax-payers to oome up prompt
ly and settle, so that the Colleoter.may
not have to devote more tins# to the
collection of taxes than the law teqwtres,
and that the county may be relieved
from embarrassment.
POOH HOUSE AXD FARM.
There are 20 jumper* at the Poor
House, all well cared for, there R ing
only one supported by the county out
side of the Poor House, to wit: Charles

mer Grand Jury. _
Tle Ordiuary has furnished this body
with a detailed statement showing the
cost of running the County harm, Hi#
sujijiort of paupers, the average
number this year being 20, and the
products of the farm. The following .s

We find the farm in good condition,
and as it is clear that by keeping it in
operation the support of paupers costs
the county not more than half what the
cost would be without the farm, and we
favor its continuance.
Owing to the fact that no funds have
yet been paid over to the County School
Commissioner, we make no report upon
his books. We are gratified to state
that criminal offences seem to be de
creasing in number, which we hail as a
sign of coming prosperity to the coun
ty
But few such cases have at this Term
been presented for our investigation ;
and hi view of the fact, ascertained by
past experience, that the Grand Jury
of the first week can usually discharge
all important duties devolving upon
Grand Jurors at one term of the Supe
rior Court, we reotnnmeud that there
be hereafter only one Grand Jury drawn
for each Term, in this county, 1 said
Jury to be discharged at any time dur
ing the Term, whenever they shall find
no business before them. By the adop
tion of this plan, a considerable sum off
money will annually be saved to ; the
county.
In conclusion we desire to express our
appreciation of the able, impartial and
dignified manner in which his Honor,
Judge Hood, has discharged his respon
sible duties at this Term of the Court,
and wc hereby tender our thanks to the
Solicitor Col. J. T. Flewellen, for
courtesies shown this body.
Finally, we recommend that these
Presentments be published iu the 1 1 w

felt under the shoulder blade, and it
frequently extends to the top of the
shoulder, and is sometimes mistaken
for rheumatism in the arm. The
stomach is affected with loss of appe
tite and sickness; the bowels tin gen
eral are costive, sometimes alternative
with lax; the head is troubled with
pain, accompanied with a dull, heavy
sensation in the back Jjart. There is
generally a considerable loss of mem
orv, accompanied with a painful sen
sation of having left Undone , some
thing which ougitfln have heen done.
A slight, dry cotfgh is sometimes an
attendant. The patient complains of
weariness and debility; he is easily
startled, his feet are cold or burning,
and he complains of a prickly sensa
tion of the skin; his spirits arc low;
and although he is satisfied that exer
cise would be beneficial to him. yet
he can scarcely summon up fortitude
enough to try it. In fact, he distrusts
every remedy. Several of the above
symptoms attend the disease, but i..-es
have occurred where few of them ex
isted, yet examination of the body,
after death, has shown the Live* to
have been extensively deranged.
A GIF. AND FEVER.
Dr. C. McLank’s Liver Tims, iv
cases of Ac, ue and Fever, when
taken with Quinine, are productive of
the vost h;ippy results. No better
cathartic can be used, preparatory to.
or after taking Quinine. We would
advise all who are afflicted with this
disease to give them a fair trial.
For all bilious derangements, and as
a simple purgative,they are unequaled.
