Going to Leave Vs.
Wo regret to learn that Mr. Elam
Johnson, a well known and prominent
citizen of this county, intends soon to
move to Atlanta. Mr. Johnson has
been merchandising at Brown Station
for the past twelve years, and has made
many friends who, with us, will regret
his departure. We commend him to
the people of Atlanta, and can assure
them that he and his family will be a
valuable addition to their community
and society.
Parties Holding Cotton

plate shipping for immediate sale, would
do well tc correspond with E. E.
Cheatham, care H. F. Grant, Savan
hah, Ga., as he is prepared to offer ex
tra inducements, and will give prompt
and personal attention to all consign
ments. All he asks is a trial.
Hied.
We regret exceedingly to learn of
the death of Mr. Win. McKtnney, son
of Capt l’. M. KcKenney, which oc
curred at the home of his father, in
Suiithvillb on Tuesday of last week.
Mr. McKinney was well and favorably
known throughout Terrell and adjoin
ing counties as a young gent'em m of
very great promise. For several years
past he had been teaching a school in
Middle Georgia, but recently removed
to Terrell county for the purpose of
engaging in farming. Deceased was
about 27 years of age, and died of
dropsy. He leaves a young wife with
whom we heartily sympathise.
Dwelling House Burned.
We regret to learn of our friend,
Mr. David Martin’s tit -fortune. Ilis
dwelling, m ar Brown Station, togeth
er with his household and kitchen
furniture, was destroyed by tire on
last Friday. N) ins trance. Mr.
Martin was absent from home at the
time, and his wit' i-l gone to visit a
sick lady near by, leaving the chil
dren playing in the yard. The fire
was first discovered in the dining
hall, and the flames spread so rapidly
that nothing could be done to check
them. Everything in the main build
ing was burned, save, perhaps, a
feather bed and a few chairs. The
smoke house also burned. The meat
was, we learn, saved, but about 10
barrels of syrup were burned. Mr.
Martin is one of our best young far
mers, and is a deserving gentleman.
We are glad to learn that the good
people of Brown Station and vicinity
have gone to work to rebuild Mr.
Martin’s house, and, as far as possi
sible, replace his furniture, etc.
That Boquet Party.
The boquet party given at the res
idence of Mrs. F. A. Simpson, on last
Tuesday night, was a most enjoyable
affair. On Tuesday a number of the
young ladies deposited boquets, with
their names attached, iuaboxat Miss
A. B. Smith’s millinery store. When
a boquet was drawn it was under
stood that the gentleman was to ac
company the lady whose boquet he
drew. In the afternoon the drawing
took place and resulted as follows:
D W Crouch drew Miss Dix’e Cheatham
T H Farnuin “ Miss Nora Allen,
J P Griffin “ Miss Minnie Allen,
J D Laing, “ Miss Ellie Rogers,
MII Baldwin “ Miss Viola Wilbanks
C E Holliday “ Miss Lillian Johnson
F W Clark “ Miss Mattie Turner
S R Christie “ Miss Saidie Grant,
E C Paschal “ Miss Mary Dozier,
T C Janes “ Miss Dora Johnson,
Wesley Dozier “ Miss Burta Blair,
J D Hoyl “ Miss Jennie Rogers,
U L Weston “ Miss Lizzie Anthony.
All the boys think they drew the
“capital prize.” The evening was
pleasantly spent, and we believe all
are in favor of another “boquet party.’’
We again return sincere thanks to
those of our patrons who have paid up
their dues to this office so promptly. It
is truly gratifying to us to know that
our citizens appreciate our efforts to
give them a good paper. We have
added a large number to our subscrip
tion list since Christmas, which, we
consider, complimentary, and we shall
do all in our power to send out, each
week, a paper that will interest the
masses.
