The Sandersville Courier records the
following act of heroism by which an
entire family were saved from what
seemed to be certain death :
“On Friday morning as Mr. T. G.
Duggan was returning from Warren
county with his wife and three little
ehileren, his carriage horses became
frightened at a weight on the bridge
over Big Ogeechee river, on the Sand
ersville and Warrenton road, and broke
loose from the carriage, backing it off
into the stream. All but Mr. Duggan
went under the water. As soon as he
saw the impending danger, he jumped
out and made an effort to prevet the
accident, but was too late. The car
riage turned completely over, breaking
the top to pieces and burying the little
children underneath. Mr. D. plunged
into the water instantly, and by his he
roic efforts saved them all, the young
est of which was an infant six weeks
old. This was a most miraculous es
cape from the jaws of death, and should
be a warning to Road Commissioners
to put strong and substantial banisters
on all the county bridges. Mrs. Dug
gan was very badly stunned by the fall
but has recovered sufficiently to be able
to attend to her domestic affairs. The
distance from the bridge to the water
measured about ten or fifteen feet, and
the fact that .no limbs were broken by
the fall, isalmrst as remarfiable as the
escape from death by drowning.”
Early County News : “We heard
of a little piece of sharpness the other
day that surpasses anything we have be
fore known in this section. A young
man named Odom went from this side
of the river to Columbia, Ala., and
reported to a merchant there that Mr.
Colquitt Roberts, son of Mr. D. M.
Roberts, had been thrown from a bug
gy and killed, a few hours before, and
that he (Odom) had been sent for a
suit of clothes in which to bury him, to
be charged to the account of Mr. D. M.
Roberts. The clothes were furnished,
and it is supposed, Mr. Odom is now
wearing them, as he immediately left
for parts unknown; and Mr. Colquitt
Roberts is still in his usual health, and
should he 'come up with Odom will
doubtless make him suffer for wearing
off his burial suit.”
Our Tenure of Life.
Depends in great measure upon our
regard for or neglect of the lawn of
health. If we violate them we can
not expect to “make old bones.” But
(hat the span of existence allotted to a
naturally dolicate constitution, or one
which ha* been shaken bydieeaee may
bo materially lengthened, is a f ct of
which we havo daily proof. The vivi

course of the Bitters, feels that his
life-tenure is no longer the precarious
thing that it was—that he uiiy yet

<iool Digestion.
“Give us ths day our daily bread'
and good medicine to digest it, is both
reverent and human. The human
stomach and liver are fruitful sources
t'f life’s comforts; or, disordered and
diseased, they tingle misery along
every nerve and through evtny artory.
