Look out tor Cold Weather.
Yesterday morning, as we came up
to our office, we saw an old sow, in a
wood-lot industriously gathering sedge
grass. She carried the grass about
twenty yards, and had enough of it
piled up in one place to fill a large mat
tress. On the same day, we saw a man
with a heavy overcoat on moving rapid
ly southward. If this does not predin

No Measles in Dawson Yet.
For the past several days it has been
rumored that there were a few cases
of measles in our town. We have
inquired into the matter and find
that the report is without foundation.
Our physicians know of no such dis
ease here. Measles are, however,
raging in some of our sister towns,
and it is very probable that they will
be in Dawson before many days.

We have frequently had occasion
to call the attention of our readers
to the superior merits of the Savan

publisher, is still adding to its attrac

usefulness, until now, both in literary
merit and as a complete family news
paper, it stands in the front rank with
the best weekly publications in the
1 nited States, and is in truth an
honor to Southern journalism.

We regret to learn that Mr. L. A.

Everybody, but few, wanted to read
the Atlanta Constitution last Friday.

The city council is having a well dug

While at Church a few Sundays ago,
we noticed three young ladies, who, it
seemed, could not help jabbering and
giggling- It was very ugly indeed, and
had it been boys, we would be tempted
to give their names here. Good people,
when they go to Church, want to hear
the preacher talk, and not little “up
starts” who try to “show off.” V e
j trust it will uot occur again.
Letter from Joseph Hart.
Nr. Editor : If you will give me a good
boss (like old Fan) and one of Mr. Crim’s
best plows, and put me in old laud that’s
soft and easy to plow, I’ll just tell you
1 "de be just about as happy a feller as
ever you saw. Think I could come as
near going to sleep as the next feller.
Well, the other day I was way down
on the creak by myself plowin’ along,
studyin’ about things in gen’ral, and I
thort first on one thing and then an
other, and after awhile the llill-Murfry
matter come up, and I thort how Beny
Hill wanted his SB,OOO and could’nt
get it, and what a big blow he made
about it, and how he wanted to fight
this hero fellow Murfry because lie
was’nt no big lawyer and did’nt go to
congress and got in this ere big con
gressman’s way and knocked him outen
the SB,OOO, and how the newspapers
was a blowin’ about it, and bow all was
against Mr. Murfry and boldin’ up for
Hill, and how they tried to bring Alf
into the squibble.
Well, I almost forgot I was plowin’
and all at once Bill Jones slipped up and
give a big boo ! —I tell yorlwas scared
nigh outen a year’s growth, and if old
Fan had’nt a been a gentle boss, she
would a runaway, I recon. Well, bit
done Bill a beep of good and lie laugh
ed over it powerful. “Well,” be says,
“Joe, what on yearth was you tliinkin’
about so—has any of your folks died V'
“No,’ says I, “but to tell you the
truth, I was mighty bad bothered.”—
Says I, “you heard how these ere editors
was a tryin’ to git Alf iuto a big scrape
and tryin’ to pass tliare slurs upon him,
and how the legislatur had it up, and
how they cleard Alf and all this.”—
“Why, no, Joe, I had’nt liearn a word
of hit, but if they’re tryin’ to pass
tliare slurs on Alf, I can’t stand that.—
Why, lie’s the best govenor we ever
bad—he’s a good man, Joe, —how was
it any how ? do tell me, you don’t think
they’l get him in the scrape, do you ?”
“Well, Bill, I’le tell you all I know
about it. You see the govenor had
some rale rode bonds to sign. Some
sorter mills up tliare about Atlanty,
(and I think they called it rollin’ mills)
wanted the govenor to sign mighty
bad and could’nt wate no longer, and
they told Ben Hill if he’d get the gov
enor to sign ’am and fix ’am all up
right they’d give him SB,OOO. (Whe’o
say Bill, no wonder.) Well, Mr. Ilill
he sorter tride a little and was kinder
easy about it, and you know he was a
way yonder in Washinton, and the gov
enor was’nt quite .satisfied on the ques
tion, so he never signed the bonds then,
and the mills they was in a mighty bur
ry, so one feller named Murfry, who
stays up tliare in the treasurer’s offis, he
found it out, and lie fell’s these here
mill folks if you’l give me this ere
SB,OOO I'll try and get it fixed for you.
Well, by this time the govenor had
found out it was all right, and lie signed
the bonds, and Murfry gos up to the
mills and gets bis SB,OOO and Ben, lie
got knocked outeu it. So now these
here editors is a tryin’ to put Alf down,
and this here Columbus editor says lie
can’t be govenor any more, and several
of these here editors is a castin’ their
insinuations at Alf because lie won’t
turn that fellow Murfry outen office.”
“ W ell, I ’’says Bill, “I liad’nt beam
a word of it,” but, says he, “Joe, let
me tell you, if Mr. Ben. Hill had’er
got the §B,OOO that this feller Murfry
got, v uu never would a hearn from hit.
Our Alf and everybody else would a
been all right, and I’le tell you if Mr.
Hill was to take snuff lots of these here
Georgy folks would sneeze. He is a
mighty smart man, and he can write or
speak and make some of ’em believe any
thing ; and l’le tell you, Joe, thare is
one thing certain, —I know Alf Col
quitt is all right, for I’ve tried him to
the bottom, lie’s as good a man as
any of them, and I think a heap better
than some of ’urn that’s talkin’ about
him.”
“Well,” says TANARUS, “Bill, I’le see you
agin’ next Sunday, and we’l talk it all
over. I’ve got this ere Conner to plow
out before night. So go up, Fan.”
Yours truly,
Jok Dart.
Suffering fora Lite Time.
Persons afflicted with rheumatism
often suffer for a life time, their "tor
tures being almost without remission.
The joints and muscles of such un
fortunates are in most eases shocking
ly contorted and drawn out of shape.
To afford them even temporary relief,
the ordinary remedies often prove ut
terly useless. Hostettei’s Stomach
B.tters, on tho other hand, is avouch
ed by persons who have usbdit, to be a
genuine source of relief. It keeps
the blood cool by promoting a regu
lar habit of body, and removes from
it impurities which, in the opinion of
all rational pathologists,originate this
agonizing complaint and its kindred
malady, tho gout. Besides this the
Bitters lemedy disorders of tho stom

fevers, promwe appetite and uleep,
and are highly recommended by phy

Woman’s Eights.
Ye*, woman has as good right to
health and happiness as tho other
sex. Then, why suffer so long when
the remedy is within your reach. Try
Braefield’s Female Kegula'o, Wo

your health and strength fully res
