Barbarous.
Rev. G. W. Cook, who has recently
been erecting some beautiful monu
ments in our cemeteries, complains
that some uncivilized persons have
spit tobacco juice over many of the
monuments, defacing them badly, and
putting him to a good deal of trouble.
He knows no reason why he should be
so treated, as lie has harmed no one.
We understand that the picnic at
Harp’s gin on last Saturday, was an
unusually interesting affair. We were
invited to make the good people of
that section a speech on that occasion,
but as speech-making is entirely out of
our line of business, we did not go.
The entire Journal office force is un

A fellow by the name of Stevens,
from Eufaula, and his wife recently
came to Dawson to live. Last week
Stevens got drunk, went home and
abused his wife. Then they “parted.”
At last accounts Stevens had sued out
a possessory warrant and was trying to get
some of his old clothes back.
If a negro man crooks his fiinger at
his wife; or, if a negro woman sneezes
so loud as to disturb her husband’s quiet
slumber, they are charged with “assult

and carried to the court-house for “set

have been tried before Judge Simmons
within the past few days. It is well
enough, we presume, tokeep the lawyers
employed.

At present it is doing as well as could
be expected, though rust is reported in
some fields, and the crop may yet be

Yes, I am Proud of the Name —
Woman’s best Friend.
To relievo the aching heart of wo
men aud bring joy where sorrow reig
ned supreme, is a mission before which
the smiles of kings dwindle into utter
insignificance. To do this is the po
culiar province of Dr. J. Bradfield s
Female Regulator, which, from the
numberless cures it has accomplished,
is appropriately styled VVomau’s Best
Friend. The distressing complaint
known as the “whites,” and the vari
ous irregularities of the womb, to which
woman is subject, disappear <ike mag
ic before a single bottle of this won
derful compound. Ask y.urdruggist
for it.
Whither are you bound ? said John
Moore, as he stood in the door-way
of his establishment, and saw his eld
friend Sam Rogers walking slowly
past. The latter, with sunken eyes
and pallid visage, bearing evidences
of disease, hastened to reply. “I
have long suffered all thehorrors aris
ing from an inactive liver, and nen go
ing to the office of Dr. Slow to seek
relief.” “Do no such thing, said his
friend, when you can buy a bottle of
PorUlins. Tabler's Liver Regulator,
for only 50 cents, and be permanently
relieved. It will cure Dyspepsia,
Heartburn, Sour Stomach, S,ck head
ache, and all disorders of a torpid liv

HOW WATChES ARE MAIE.
It will bo apparent to any one, who
will examine a Solid Gold Watch,
that aside from the necessary thickness
for engraving and polishing, a largo
proportion of the precious metal used,
is needed only to stiffen and hold the
engraved portions in place, and sup
ply thenecessarysolidity and strength.
The surplus gold is actually needless
so far as utility and beauty are con
cerned. In JAMES BOSS’ PAT
ENT GOLD WATCH CASES, this
waste of precious metal is overcome,
and the Same solidity and stkengtu
produced at from one-third to one-half
of the usual cost of solid cases. This
process is of the most simple nature,
as follows: a plate of nickie composi
tion metal, specially adapted to the
purpose, has two plates of solid gold
soldered one ou each sido. The three
are then passed between polished
steel rollers, and the result i a strip
of heavily plated composition, from
which the cases, backs, centres, bez
els, &c., are cut and shapeu by suita
ble dies and formers The gold in
these cases is suffic ‘■•siitly thick to ad
mit of all kinds of chasing, engraving
and enamelling; the engraved cases
have been carried until worn perfect
ly smooth by time and use without re
moving the gold. They are for sale
by all jewelers, and each case is war
ranted by Special Certificate. If
your jeweler does not keep them, send
to Hagstoz & Thokpb, Sixth and
Chestnut Sts., Philadelphia, for i’lua
trated catalogue.
VEILGW FEVER-BLACK VOMIT.
It is too soon to forget the ravages at this
terrible disease, which will no doubt return
in a more malignant form and virulent form
in the fall months of 1879.
Merrkll’s Hkpatink, a Remedy discover
ed in Southern Nubia and used with such
wonderful results in South America where
'he most aggrav.itedcases of fever are found
causes from one to two ounces of bile to be
filtered or strained from the blood each
time it passes through the Liver, as long as
an excess of bile exists. By its wonderful
action on the Liver and Stomsch the Hkpa
tine not only prevents to a certainty any
kind of Fever and Black Vomit, bat also
cures Headache, Constipation of the Bowels,
Dyspepsia and all Malarial diseases.
No one need fear Yellow Fever who will
expel the Malarial Poison and excess of bile
from the blood by using MERRELL’S HEP
ATINE, which is sold by all Druggists in 25
cent and ft.CO bottles, or will be seni by
express by the Pr prietors.

CASE OF COL. J. C. BRANSON.
Kingston, Ga , September 15, 1871.
Gents:—For 10 years I have beeu a great
mfferer from Scrofula in its most distressing
forms. I have been confined to my room
and bed for 15 years with sciofulous ulcera
tions. The most approved remedies for
such cases had been used, and the mos:
eminent physicians consulted, without any
decided benefi’. Thus prostrated, distressed
desponding, I was advised by Dr. Aye', ot
Floyd county, Ga, to commence the use of
vour Compound Extract Stillingia. Language
is as insufficient to describe the relief I ob
tained from the use of the Stiilingia as is to
convey an adequate idea of the intensity of
my suffering before using your medicine;
sufficient to say, I abandoned all other rem
edies and continued the use of your Extract
of Stillingia, until 1 can say truly, “I am
cured of pain, 1 ' of all disease, with nothing
to obstruct the active pursuit of niv profes
sion. More than eigbt months have elapsed
•unce this remarkable cure, without any re
turn of the disease.
For the truth of the above statement I
refer to any gentleman of Battow county,
Ga , and the members of the bar of Chero
kee Circuit, who are acqnairted with me. I
shall ever remain, with the deepest gratitude

A MIRACLE,
West Point, Ga , Sept. 16, 1871.
GKNTS:-My daughter was taken on the 25th
day of June, 1863, with what was supposed
to be Acute Rheumatism, ar.d was treated
for the same with no success. In March,
following, pieces of bone began to work
out of the right arm, and continued to ap
pear till all the bone fram the elbow to the
shoulder joint came out. Many pieces of
bone came out of the right foot and leg.
The case was then pronounced one of Whim
Swelling. After having been confined about
six years to her bed, and the case considered
hopeless, I waa induced to try Dr. PembeT
tou’s Cumpoun 1 Extract of Stiilingia, and
was so well satisfied with its effects that I
have continued the u e of it until now.
My daughter was eonfim and to her bed
about six years before she sat up or even
turned over without help. She now sits up
all day and sews most o her time, has walk
ed across the room. Her general health is
now good, and I believe she will, *s her
limbs gain strength, walk well. I attribute
her recovery, with the blessing of God, to
the use of your valuable medicine.
With gratitude, I am, yours truly,
W. B.BLANTOM.

Am. description of sores are remedial by
the proper and dilligent use of this inesti
mable preparation. To attempt to cure bad
legs by plastering the edges of the wound
together is folly; for should Ihe skin unite,
a boggy diseased condition remains under
tieath to break out with tenfold lury in a few
days. The only rational and successful
treatment, a., Indicated by nature, is to re
duce the inflammation in and about the
wound and to soothe the neighboring paits
by rubbing in plenty of the Ointment, as
salt is forw-ed into meat. This will cause the
malignant humors to be drained off from tne
baid, swollen, and disrolored parts round
about the wound, sore or ulcer, and when
there humors are removed, the wounds
themselves will soon heel: warns bread and
water poultices applied over the affected
parts, alter the Ointment has been well rub
bed in, will Soothe and soften the same and
gently assist the cure. There is a descrip
tion of ulcer, sore and swelling, which need
not be named hefe, attendant upon the tol
lies of yuuth, and lor which this Ointment
is urgently recommended as a sovereign
remedy. In curing such ptisom us sores it
never fails to restore the system to a healthy
state if the Pills be taken according to the
prided instructions.
Diphtheria, Ulcerated Sore Throat,
Scarlet aud other Fevers.
Any of the above diseases may be aured
by well rubbing the Ointment throe times a
day into the chest,, throat, and neck of the
patient; it will soon penetrate and give im
mediate relief. Medicine taken by the
month must operate upon the whole system
ere Its influence can be felt in any local part,
whereas the Ointment will do its woik at
once. Whoever tries the unguent in the
above manner for the diseases named, or
any similar disorders affecting the ub st and
throat, will find themselves relieved as bv a
charm. All sufferers from these complaints
should enve’op the turoat atb.dtitno in a
largo bread and water poultice, after the
Ointment has been Wall rubbed it; it will
greatly assist the cure of the throat and
chest. To allay the fever and lessen the
inffimmation, eight or ten Pills should b>
taken night and moinitig. The Oimment
will produce perspiration, the grand essen
tial in nil cises of levers, sore throats, or
where there might be an oppression of the
chest, either from asthma or other causes.
Files, Fistulas, Strictures.
The above class or complaints will be re
moved by nightly lomcnting the parts with
warm water, and tbeu by most effectually
rubbing in the Ointment. Persons suffering
from these direful complaints ohonld hs.
mt a moment in arrestiug their progress I
should be understood that it is not sullici. ui
merelv to smea' the Ointment an the uffect
ed parts, but it must be well rubbed in for
considerable time two or three times a day,
that it may be taken into the evstem, whence
it will remove any hidden sore or wound at
effectaally as though palpable to the eye
There again bread and water poultices, after
the rubbing in of the Ointment, will do great
seivice. This is the only sure treatment
(or females, cases ot caLcar iu the stomach,
or where there may be a general bearing
down.
Sores end Ulcers.
Blotches, as ulo swellings, can, with cer
tainty, be radically cured if the Ointment be
used freely, and the Pills be taken uigbi
and morning, as recommended in the prin
ted instructions. When treated in any othei
wa v they only dey up in ono place to break
out in an other; whereas this Oiutnie t will
remove the humor from the system, and
leave the patient a vigorous and healthy be
ing. It will require time with the use of the
Pills to insure a lasting cure.
Dropsical Swollitigs, Paralysis, and
Stilf Joints.
Although the above complaiuts differ
wid lv in their origin and nature, yet they
all require local treatment. Many of the
worst easrH of such diseases will yield iu a
corparativcly shoit space of lime when this
Omtnient is diligently lubbed into tho parts
affected, even after cVi ry other me.ius have
tailed. Iu all seilaus maladies the Pills
should be takeu according to the printed
directions accompanying each box.
Both the Ointment and Pills should be
used in the following c.ise-:
Bad Legs, Bad Breasts, Burns, Bunions,
Bite ol Mosquitoes and Sand Flies, Chit
Plains, Chapped Hands, Corua (soft,) Can
cers, Contracted aud Stiff Joints. Elephan
tiasis, Fistulas, Gout, Glandular Swellings,
Eumb.igo. Piles, Rheumatism, Scalds, Sore
Nipyles, Sore Throats, Skin Diseases, Scurvy
Sore Heads, Tumors, Ulcers. Wounds.
CAUTION!—None are genuine unless the
signature ol J. HaVnock, as agent for the
United .States, surrouuds each box of Pills
and Ointment. A handsome reward will be
given to any one rendering -uch information
as may lead to the detection of any party or
parties counterfeiting the medicine or vend
ing the saute, knowing them them to be
spuiious.
