A High Recommendation.
No Dentist in this city has finer or
more imposing rooms, nor a better out
fit generally, than Dr. ltobertson, at
265 Main St., or who has won a larger
patronage in so short a time. We have
tried his work, bothfillingand a full sett,
and find it perfectly satisfactory and
most cheerfully commend him, as a
Dentist, to all our friends.
J. It. Graves, Editor the Baptist.

Office at L. C. Hoyl s room.
An Explanation*
The particulars of the drowning ot
the little hoy, at Ohickasawhatchie,
published in this paper last week, are,
in the main, correct. We have been
requested, however, to state that the
rope to the well was not sufficient to
bear a man’s weight, is the reason Mr.
Jim Jones did not go down the well to
save the boy’s life. Besides, Mr.
Jones was very feeble. Under the
circumstances, no oue Call blame Mr.
Jones, and we take pleasure in setting
him right before the people. The ar
ticle published last week was read to
our informant before it was put in
type, and he pronounced it correct. If
we did Mr. Jones an injustice, we are
sorry for it.
Rogers & Eaing.
These handsome and enterprising
young merchents throw their banner to
the breeze in this issue, and announce
that those trading with them shall have
goods as cheap as they can be sold in
this market. Mr. Rogers has just re
turned from the eastern markets, and
being a glentleman of fine taste, we
know that there must be something fine
and handsome in the immense stock of
goods the firm has been receiving and
opening during the past two weeks.
Call on them, ladies and gentlemen,
and Dave and Lee and Masters Wesley
Dozier and Lloyd Parks will astonish
you with the array of beautiful goods
and pleasant smiles they will unroll to
your view.
The Business Out-look ot Daw
son.
Never since we have been a citizen of
Dawson, have we seen such stocks of
goods brought to the place as are now
being received and opened by our mer
chants. The advertisements that you
see in this journal are no idle boasts,
hut every word they contain is, to our
personal knowledge, strictly true. In
fact, our merchants are of the solid
kind, and not such as make a big blow
over nothing. They are not going to
puff and blow and spend money in ad
vertising without something to show for
it, and back them up in it. If in all
our experience we had ever known a
town of the size of Dawson overstocked
wi f h goods, we would fear that such
was about to be the case with us now.
But we have never known such a thing
as a small town overstocked with goods.
We have seen them languish from a fail
ure on the part of the merchants to
keep a sufficiency of goods to supply
the wants of the people, but we never
saw a small town or a country store, at
a reasonably good locality, suffer from
an over supply of goods iu the hands
of energetic men of business, and the
reputation the keeping of such gives a
place attracts attention and draws trade
from a distance that might go else
where.
A few years ago, Dawson was in the
clutch of railroads, and our merchants
were discouraged and despondent. They
were under the feet of a powerful mo
nopoly and had to stand and see
the trade of their county go to other
markets without the power to help
themselves. But by close economy
and prudent management they have all
pulled through the terrible crisis, and
are now relieved of the presure to such
an extent as ask no place any odds.
All *hey asked was an open field and a
fair fight. Having secured that, they
are in the field aud ready for the fray;
they ask the neighboring and, formerly,
more favored towns no favors and no
odds- They are going to take and keep
the field that legitimately belongs to
them.
We can (thank Fortune) noil) say to
oUr readers that they need not go else
where to trade for fear they will not
find what they want in Dawson, or take
their cotton to distant markets for fear
they cannot get the highest possible
price here. Bring your cotton to Daw
son; we have a set of clever buyers
loaded down with money that will silatch
it up before you can say “Jack Robin
son,” aud give you the very highest
price for it. If one will not give you
what you ask for it another Will. We
saw a man in town the other day with
a ragged old storm beaten bale that he
told us, confidentially, that he did not
expect to get hardly anything for, but
when he went on the streets with his
sample, to his great surprise, it was
gobbled up at 10 cents per pound. He
was, of course, delighted aud said the
warehouse men and cotton-buyers were
mighty clever. We arc afraid that the
cotton crop will be short, but hope that the
price will continue good. Farmers
should see to it that they get, the very
best prices for what thev do make, and
the most and best goods possible for
the money it brings. Cuuie to Dawson,
anyhow, before you make up your mind
to go elsewhere to trade, aud see what
we are prepared to do. Many of our
goods have not yet arrived, and many
that are already here are not unpacked
for want of time and room, but our
merchants, clerks and carpenters are
hard at work making room and getting
them in order.
We will also say to those who, we
near, are talking of moving to our town
on account of its healthfulness, and for
the priviledge of our excellent schools,
etc., etc., that they had better hurry
up, as property, rents, etc., are rapidly
A Great Demand for Terrell
County Lauds.
It is quite apparent that there is a
great demand for l.fnd and homes in
Terrell county. The healthfulness of
our county and the fertility of our
soil are attracting attention from less
favored localities. Every advertise
ment of “Laud tor Sale” brings nu
merous inquiries, and nearly every
one who comes and looks buys. In
Ten ell county there are good lands
enough to support ten times her pres
ent population. Many have more
land than they have use for and de
sire to sell a part; others like trade
and change.
Now* ii' you have land for sale, in
Terrell county* oil favorable terms* I
wall advertise it for you for a reason
able time, assist in finding a purchas
er and selling it, examine title, make
deeds etc., etc., and charge you such
compensation, only in case of sale,
as may be agreed upon.
