Hints to Housekeepers.
Indian meal should be kept in a cool
place, and stirred open to the air once
in a while. A large stone put in the
middle of a barrel of meal is a good
think to keep it cool.
A warming-pan full of coals, or a
shovel of coals, held over varnished fur
niture will take out white spots. Care
should be taken not to hold the coals
near enough to scorch; and the place
should be rubbed with flannel while
warm.
Spots in furniture may usually De
cleaned by rubbing them quick and
hard with a flannel wet with the same
thing which took out the color; if rum
wet the cloth with rum, etc. The very
best restorative for defaced varnished
furniture is rotten-stone pulverized, and
rubbed on with linseed-oil.
Woolens should be washed in very j
hot suds and not rinsed. Lukewarm
water shrinks them. Never iron flan
nels.
Silk, or anything that has silk in it,
should be washed in water almost cold.
Hot water turns silk yellow. It may
be washed in suds made of nice white
soap; but no soap ahould be put upon
it. Avoid the use of hot irons in
smoothing silk. Either rub the article
dry with a soft cloth, or put them be
tween towels, and press them with
weights. i
Bottles that have been used for rose
water should be used for nothing else;
if scalded ever so much, they will kill
the spirit of what is put in them.
Do not wrap knives and forks in wool
ens. Wrap them in good, strong paper.
Steel is injured by lying in woolens.
I was once very shy,” said Sydney
Smith, “but it was not long before I
made two very useful discoveries; first,
that all mankind were not wholy em
ployed in observing me (a belief that
all young people have); and next, that
shaming was of no use; that the world
was very clear sighted, and soon esti
mated a man at his just value. This
cured me, and I determined to be nat
ural and let the world find me out. ’
The forest near Dillon, Kan., has an
uncommon hermit in the person of a
young and not ugly woman, who lodges
in a rude hut, eats vegetables and game
of her own getting, and will not say a
word to persons wiio intrude upon her.
It is conjectured that she is insane: but
aside from her lonely mode of life,
there is nothing in her conduct to sus
tain that belief.

CASE OF COL. J C. BRANSON.
Kinqston, Ga , September 15, 1871.
Gents: —For 16 years I have been a great
sufferer from Scrofula in its most distressing
forms. I have been confined to my room
and bed for 15 years with scrofulous ulcera
tions. The most approved remedies for
such cases had been used, and the most
eminent physicians consulted, without any
decided benefit. Thus prostrated, distressed
desponding, I was advised by Dr. Aye', of
Floyd county, Ga , to commence the use of
your Compound Extract Stillingia. Language
is as insufficient to describe the relief I ob
tair.ed from the use of the Stillingia as is to
convey an adequate idea of the intensity of
my suffering before using your medicine;
sufficient to say, I abandoned a'l other rem
edies and continued the use of your Extract
of Stillingia, until 1 can say truly, “I am
cured of pain,“ of all disease, with nothing
to obstruct the active pursuit of my profes
sion. More than eight months have elapsed
since this remarkable cure, without any re
turn of the disease.
For the truth of the above statement I
refer to any gentleman of Bartow county,
Ga., and the members of the bar of Chero
kee Circuit, who are acquairted with me. I
shall ever temain, with the deepest gratitude
Your obedient servant,
J.C. BRANSuN, Att’y at Law
A MIRACLE.
West Point, Ga , Sept. 16, 1871.
GENTS:-My daughter was taken on the 251 h
day of June, 1863, with what was supposed
to be Acute Rheumatism, and was treated
for the same with no success. In March,
following, pieces of bone began to work
out of the right arm, and cnutinied to ap
pear till all the bone frjm the elbow to ihi
shoulder joint came out. Many pieces or
boue came out of the tight foot and leg
The case was then pronounced one of Wlmc
Swelling. After having been confined about,
six years to her bed, and the case considered
hopeless, I was induced to try Dr. PembeT
ton’s Cumpnun 1 Extract of Stillingia, and
was so well satisfied with its effects that I
have continued the upof it uu t i 1 now.
My daughter was confined to her bed
about six years before sbe sat up or even
turned over without help. She now sits up
all day and sews most o her time, has walk
| ed across the room. Her general health is
now good, and I believe she will, is her
: limbs gain strength, walk we!!. I attribute
J her recovery, with the blessing of God, to
the use ol your valuable medicine.
With gratitude, I am, yours truly,
W.B BLANTOM.

HOLLOWAY'S PILLS.
Nervous Disorders.
What is more fearful than a breaking down i
of the r tvous system? To be excitable or |
nervous in a small degree is mo9t distressing
for where can a remedy be found? This is ;
one; drink but little wine, beer, or spirits, j
or far better, none; take no coffee, weak 1
tea being preferable; get all the fresh air :
you can; take three or four Pills every
night; eat plenty of solids, avoiding the u.e
of slops; and if thete golden rules are fb'- \
lowed, you will be happy in mind and strong
in body, and forget you have any nerves.
Mothers and Daughters.
If there is one thing more than another
lor which these Pills are so famous, it is their
purifying properties, especially their power
of clensing the blood from all impurities;
and removing dangerous and suspended
secretions. Universally adopted as the one
grand remedy for female complaints, they
never fail, never weaken the system, and
always bring about what is required.
Sick Headaches and Want of Appetite
These feelings which so sadden us, most
frequently ai i.-e from annoyuces or trouble,
from obstructed perspiration, or from eating
and drinking what is uafit for us, thus disor
dering the liver and stomaeh. These organs
must be regulated if you wish to be well.
The Pills, if taken according to the printed
instructions, will quickly restore a healthy
action to both liver aud stomach, whence
follow, as a na'ural consequence, a good ap
petite and a clear head. In the East and
West Indies scarcely any other medicine is
ever used for these disorders.
How to be Strong.
Never let the bowels be either confined or
unduly acted upon. It may appear singu
lar that Holloway's Pills should be recom
mended for a run upon the bowels, many
persons supposing that they would increase
relaxation. This is a great mistake, bowev
e<; for these Pills will immediately correct
the liver and stop every kind of bowel com
plaint. In warm climates thousands of lives
have been saved by the use ot this medicine
which, in all cases, gives tone and vigor to
the whole organic system, however derang
ed; health and strength following as a mat
ter of course. The app.-tite, too, is won
derfully increased by the use of these Pills,
combined in the use of solid in preference
to fluid diet. Animal food is better than
broths and stews. By removing acrid, fer
m uted, or other impure homors from the
liver, stomach, or blood, the cause of dysen
terv, diarrloji, and other bowell complaints
s expelled. The result is, that the diatur
bance is arrested, and the action of the
bowels becomes regular. Nothing will stop
the relaxation of the bowels so quickly as
this fine correcting medicine.
Disorders of the Kidneys.
In all diseases affecting these organs,
whether they secrete too much or too little
water: or whether they be afflicted with
stone or graoel, or with aches or pains set
tled in the loins over the regions of the kid
neys, these Pills should be taken accoiding
to the printed directions, and the Ointtneut
should be well rubbed into the small of the
back at bedtime. This treatment will give
almost immediate reli i when all means
have failed.
For Stomachs out of Order,
No medicine will so effectually improve
the tone of the stomach as these Pills; they
emove all acidity, occasioned either by in
remperance or improper diet. They reach
he liver and reduce it to a healthy action;
hey ate wonderfully efficacious in case ot
-pasms, in fact thev never fail in curing all
lisoidersof the liver and stomach.
Holloway’s Pills are the best remedy known
in the world for the fallowing diseases.
