THE SUN FOR 1880.
The Run will deal with the events ot the
vear 1880 iu its own fashion, now pretty well
understood by everybody. From January 1
uutil December 31st will be conducted as a
newspaper, written in the English language,
and printed fo- the people.
Asa newspaper, The Sun believes in get*
ting all the of the world promptly, and
presenting it in tho most intelligible shape—
the shapo that will enable its readers to keep
well abreast of the age with the least unpro
ductive expenditure of time: The greatest
interest to the greatest uumber—that is, the
lyw contralling its daily make-up. It now
has a circulation very much larger than that
of any otner American newspaper, and en
joys an income which it is at all timea pres
pared to spend liberally for the benefit of it
readers. People of all conditions of life and
all ways thinking buy and read The Sun;
and they ali derive satisfac.iou of some sort
from its columns, for they keep on buying
and reading it.
In its comments an men and affairs, The
Sun believes that the only guide of policy
should be common sense, inspired by genu
ine American principles and backed by hou
esty of purpose. For this reason it is, and
will continue to be, absolutely independent
of party, class, clique, organization, or In
terest. It is for ali, but of none. It will
continue to psaise what is good and repro
bate what is evil, taking care that its langu
age is to the point and plain, beyond the
possibility of being misuuderstood. It is
uninfluenced by motives that dc not appear
on the surface: it has no opinions to sell,
save those which may be had by any pur
chaser wih two eftnts. It hates injustice
and raseality even more than it hates an
necessary words. It abhora frauds, pities
fools, and deplore* nincompoops of every
species. It will continue throughout the
year 188) to chastise the first class, instruct
the .second, and disoouoteoanoe the third.
All honest men, with henest convictions,
whether sound or mistaken, are its friends.
And the Run makes no bones of telling the
truth to its friends and about its friends
whenever occasion arises for plain speaking.
These are the principles upon which the
Sun will be c nducted during the year to
come.
The year 1880 will be one in which no
pstriotie American can afford to cloae hit
eyes to public affairs. It is impossible to
exagerate the importance of the political
events which it has in store, or the necessi
ty of resolute vigil.iaee on the part ot every
citizen who desires to preserve the Govern
ment that the loundere gave us. The de
bates and acts of Congress, the utterances
of the press, the excitiDg contests of the
Republican and Democratic parties, now
nearly equal in strength throughout the
couutry, the varying drift of public senti
ment, will all bear dircotly and effectively
upon the twenty-fourth Presidential eleetion
to bo heldjin November. Nlfer years ago
next November the will will of the aation.

will briug the answers to these momentous
questions. The Sun will be ob hand to
chronicle the facts as they are developed,
and to exhibit them clearly aud fearlessly in
their relations to expediency and right.
Thus, with a habit of philosophical good

B-d Legs, Bad Breasts, Sores and tJlcers.
All description of sores are remedial by
.lie proper arid dilligent use of this inesti
mable preparation. To attempt to cure bad
legs by plastering the edges of the wound
together is folly; for should the skin unite,
Ia boggy diseased condition remains under
neath to break out with tenfold Inry in a few
day*. The only rational and snccessful
treatment, as indicated by nature, is to re*
duce the inflammation in and about the
wound and to soothe the neighboring parts
hy rubbing in plenty of the Ointment', as
salt is forced Into meat. This will cause the
malignant humors to be drained off from tne
hard, swollen, and disrolored parts round
| about the wound, sore or ulcer, and when
there humors are removed, the wounds
themselves will soon heel: warm bread and
water poultices applied over the affected
parts, after the Ointment has been well rub'
bed in, will soothe and soften the same and
gently assist the cure. There is a descrip
tion of ulcer, sore and swelling, which need
not be named here, attendant upon the foil
lies of youth, and for which this Ointment
is uigently recommended ns a sovereign
remedy. In curing such poisonous sores it
never fails to restore the system to a healthy
state if she Pills be taken according to the
printed instructions.
Diphtheria, Ulcerated Bore Throat,
Scarlet aud other Fevera.
Any of the above diseases may be aured
by well rubbing the Ointment three times a
day into the chest, throat, and neck of the
patient) it will soon penetrate and give im
mediate relief. Medicine taken by the
mouth mart operate upon the Whole system
ere its influence can be felt in any local part,
whereas the Ointment will do its work at
once. Whoever tries the unguent in the
above manner fer the diseases named, or
any similar disorders affecting the ch at and
throat, will find themselves relieved as bv a
chirm. All sufferers from these complaints
should envelop the tnroat at bedtime in a
large bread and water poHltice, after the
Oiutineut haa been well rubbed it; it will
greatly assist the cure of the throat and
chest. To allay the fever and lessen the
influnmation, eight or ten Pills should be
taken night and morning. The Ointment
will produce perspiration, the grand essen
tial in all cases of fevers, sore throats, or
where there (night be an oppression of the
cl eat, either from asthma or other causes.
Files, Fistulas, Strictures.
The above class of complaints will be re
moved bv nightly fomenting the parts with
warm water, and theu by most effectually
rubbing in the Ointment. Persons suffering
from these direful complaints chould lose
njt a moment in arresting their progress. It
should he understood that it is not suffieunt
merelv to smea r the Ointment an the iiffecl
cd parts, but it must be well robbed in for a
considerable time two or throe times a day,
that it may be taken into the system, whence
it will remove any hidden sore or wound as
cffectaally as though palpable to the eye
There again bread and water poultices, after
the rubbing in of the Ointment. w:ll do great
setvice. This is the only sure treatment
for females, cases of cancer in the stomach,
or where there may be a general bearing
down.
Sores and Ulcers.
Blotches, as al“0 swellings, can, with cer
tainly, be radically cured if the Ointment be
used freely, aud the Pills bo taken nigh'
and morning, as racommended in the prin
ted instructions. When treated in any other
way they only dey up in one pl->C' to break
out in another; wheieas this Ointnic twill
remove the humor from the system, and
leave the patient a vigorous aud healthy be
ing. It will require time with the use of the
PdU to insure a lasting cure.
Dropsical Swellings, Paralysis, and
Stitf Joints.
Although the above complaints differ
wit] ly ia tbeir origin and nature, yet they
all require iaeal treatment. Many of the
worst case* #f sach diseese* will yield in a
cotpafaWTely ehott spsec of time when thi*
Ointment is diligently rubbed into the parts
affected, even after rvi rr other meins have
failed. In all seriaus maladies the Pills
should be taken according to the printed
directions ascmnpanyi.ig each box.
Both the O'ntmetit. and Pills should be
used in the following cise°:
Bad Legs, Bid Breasts, Burns, Bunions,
