THE SUN FOR 1880.
The Son will deal with the events of the
vear 2880 iu its own tashion.now pretty well
undeistood by everybody. From January 1
uutil December Slet will be conducted as a
newspaper, written in the English langu ge,
and ptinted fo- the people.
Asa newspaper, The Sun believes in get
ting alltbe news of the world promptly, and
presenting it iu the most intelligible-hape—
the shape that wili enable its readers to keep
well abreast of the age with the least unpro
ductive expenditure of time; The greatest
interest to the greatest number—that is, the
law eontrulliug its daily make-up. It now
h .s a circulation very much larger than that
of any other American newspaper, and en •
joys an income which it is at ail times pres
pared to spend liberally for the benefit of it
readers. People of all conditions of life and
ail ways thinking buy and read The Sun;
and they all dative satisfac ion of some sort
from its columns, for they keep on buying
and reading it. .
In its comments on mien and affairs, The
Sun believes that the only guide of policy
should be common sense, inspiied by jreuu
ioe American principles aud backed by hon
esty of purpose. For this reason if is, and
will conliutie to be, absolutely independent
of party, class, clique, oxganiz ition, or in
terest. It is for all, but of none, It will
continue to psaiae what is good and repro
bate what is evil, taking ca’ e that its langu
age is to the point and (Jain, beyond the
possibility of being misunderstood. It is
uninflueuccd by motives that do not appear
on the surface: it has no opinions to sell,
save tho-e which may be had by auv pi -
chase, with two cents. It hates iijustice
dud rascality even more than it hates un
necessary word”. It abhors frauds, pities
foal-', and deplores ninrorr.poops of every
species. If will continue throughout the
year 188) to chastise the first class, instruct
the second, and discountenance the third.
Ali honest men, with honest convictions,
whether sound or mistaken, am its friends.
And the Sun makes no bones of telling the
truth to its friends and about its friends
whenever occasion arises for plain speaking.
These are the principles upon which the
San wifi be c riducted during the year to
come.
The year 1880 will be one in which no
patriotio American can afford to close his
c<ye.s to public affairs. It is impossible to
exageratc the importance of the political
events which it has in store, or the necessi
ty of resolute vigilance ou the part of every
citizen who desires to preservo the Govern
ment that the lounders gave us. The de
bates and acts of Congress, the rtterances
of the press, the exciting contests of the
Republican and Democratic parties, now
nearly equal in strength throughout the
country, the varying drift of public senti
ment, will all bear directly and effeo*fvely
upon the twenty-fourth Presidential election
to be held iu November. Four years ago
next November the will will of the nation,
as expressed at the polls, was thawarted by
an abominable conspiracy, the promoters
and beneficiaries of woich still hold the
offices they stole. Will the crime of 1576 be
repeated in 1880? Tho past decade of years
opened with a corrupt, extravigant, nod in
solent Administration at Washiogt n. Th
Stn did something toward dislodging the
gangand breaking its power. The same men
aro now intriguing to restore their leader
aud themselves to places from wbiek they
were driven by the indignation of the peo
ple. Will they succeeo? The coming year
will bring the answers to these momentous
questions. The Sun will be on hand to
chrouiole the facts as t'nev are developed,
tnj to exhibit them clearly and fearlessly in
their reUli-ms to expediency and t ight.
Thus, with a habit of philosophical good
humor in looking at the minor of oflairs
life, and the great things* steadfast purpose
to maintain the rights of the people aud
principles of the Consttution against al! ag
gressors, the Sua is prepared to writes

entertaining history ot ISSO.

days. The only rational and successful
jreatbient, as indicated by nature, is to re
duce the inflammation iti and about the
wound ar.d to soothe the neighbot ing parts
by robbing in plenty of the Ointment, as
salt is turned into meat. This will cause the
malignant humors to be drained off front tne
hard, swollen, and disroiored parts round
about the wound, sore or ulcer, and when
there humors are removed, the wounds
themselves will soon heel: warm bread and
water poultices applied over the allected
parts, after the Ointment has been well rub

gently assist the cure. There is a deserip

Any of the above diseases may be aured

above manner for the diseases named, or

charm. All sufferers from these corn plaints
should envelop the tnreat at bedtime iu a

Ointment has been well rubbed it; it will
greatly assist the cure of the throat and

Piles, Fistulas, Strictures.
The aoove class of complaints will be re

warm water, and theu by most effectually
rubbing in the Ointment. Persons suffering
from these direful complaints chould lose

should ha understood that it is not sufficient
merely to ;‘riu-a r the Ointment on the . ffect
