SURVIVAL OF THE FITPEST.
For some time past the ques
tion of purity in baking powders
has formed quite a feature of
newspaper discussions, and emi
nent doctors of philosophy have
given opinions as to the ingredi
ents which compose many of the
articles sold under that name.
The investigations have narrowed
down to the limit which awards
the Royal Baking Powder the
palm of purity, and several of the
most distinguished scientists have
testified to their conviction that
no extraneous or deleterious mat
ter entersinto its composition. The
Royal Baking Powder Company
bave acbieved a world-wide repu.-
tation for the success which has
matked their preparation of cream
of tartar for baking purposes, It
is indisputably shown that they
have eliminated all elements of
tartrate of lime, alum or other im
purities, and present to the pub
lic a healthful and chemicall y pure
artiele. Such widely known che
mists as Henry Morton, BE. G.
Love, H. A. Mott, Wn.. McMur
trie and others have verified its
superiority over other manufac
tures, and testified, through prac
tical experience, to its excellence.
1t is well for families to observe
the faet that it eosts more to man
. ufacture the Royal Baking Pow
der than any other, but it is, as
¢ shown by chemical analysis, the
one “absolutely pure”buking pow
der made.

“lama lawyer's danghter, yon

had proposel and hid been ac

it strange it I were to ask yon to
'sign a little paper to the effect
that we are engaged, wouald yon?”
\Gaorge was too happy to think
anything strange just then, and he

‘hand and a buarsting heart. Then
she laid her ear against his middls

happy. “lell me, darhng,” said
George, after a long, delicious si

with infinite content, “indeed I do

Prohibition in Atlanta.
A recent telegram from Atlanta
says in aboat six weeks, when
prohibitiva starts, Atlanta will
look very much like a town for
rant. There are more vacant
houses there now than at any time
since 1873, and rents are much
lower. The bottom is cut of real
estate. There are vacant stores
in the business part of the ecity,
for which there is no demand, and
it is feared that a panic will be
created when the seventy-five sa
loons and wholesale liquor houses
take on the depressing sign “lor
Rent.” The people are as badly
divided as ever. The prohibition
ists are paralyzed and in the
damps andthe anti-prohibitionists
are saying, I told you so. Every
man can see the coming storm,
but no one can suggest a way to
turn its course. When Atlanta
recovers from her prohibition ex
perience she will say a long fare
well to fanaticism. She is paying
dearly for her experience, and her
property owners cannot under
stand why the general depression
that the prohibitionists say is the
‘matter with Atlanta does not ef
fect in a like manner Chattanoo
‘ga, Birmingham and Montgomery,
‘\o.u’ prosperous neizhbors.
