By next Thursday the entire
district will be united upon oue
man for Congress.
WE believe that if a Terrell
county man is nominated for Sen
ator to-morrow there will be an
independent candidate. ‘
THE convention to nominate a
Congressional candidate for the
2nd district meets in Camilla next
Wednesday.
BEFORE another issue of the
JourNAL we will have a congres
sional standard bearer. Guerry
is his name.
WEe have reliable information
that the vore of Worth county
will be divided in the Congres
sional convestion.
THE Valdosta Times and Quit
man Free Press say they are in
favor of Mr. Turner being nomi
nated by the two-thirds rale.
PROHIBITION is very unpopular
in this congressional district,
judging from the heavy. whiskey
majorities the counties are rolling
up.
It is said that there are people
living in the Blue Ridge moun
tains, above Dahlonega, this
Btate, who have nover seen a ne
gro.
Dr. I. H. Haxp, of Leary, has
been nominated for the Senate in
the 9th district, composed of the
counties of Calhoun, Baker and
Early.
Tur fellows who have been
writing long-winded edito
rials about the Senatorship will
now take a rest. An afflicted
public is to be congratulated.
Tue delegates may fsll ont and
fight among themselves to-mor
row and let Tcrvell eounty cap
ture the Senatorslip again. Such
things have happeued before.
QurrMaN dido’t get rid of her
republican postmaster until last
week; and that, too, at Congress
man Turner's home. Will Bro.
Perbam, of the Free Press, ex
plain?
TrE Advertiser says at the
hanging of Hudson, in Ft. Gaines,
six young ladies from the country
stood in the front row with snuff
brushes in their mouths. Enough
said. '
IT is reported that General
Jackson, United States Minister
to Mexico, has placed his resigna
tion in the hands of President
Cleveland. Mexico should cease
Cutting up so.
Tur convention to nominate a
candidate for Senator from this
district meets in Cuthbert to-mor
row. Clay is entitled to the man
and we hope the dclegates will
recognize her clahins.
Ix the fifth districc Hammond
has been lefeated for Congress
by Stewart. Hammond does not
train with the “bosses” and he
was pushed aside to give room
to another.
Tue people of Athens are dis- 1
cussing the question of issuing
bonds for the purpose of seciring
the establishment of the technolog
ical school in that city. Mucon
1s the place for it.
SHOULD Mr. Turner fail of a
nomination the Quitman Free
Press, Camilla Clarion, Bain
bridge Democrat and several oth
er partisan sheets, will be like the
little boy the calf ran over.
IT would be an extremely grace
ful act for Mr. Turper “to with
draw and allow Guerry tobe nom
inated on the first ballot without
oppasition.” The people of this
end of the district would appreci
ate it.
W. T. Newman, of Atlanta, has
been appointed to the judgeship
of the United States Court of the
Northern district of Georgia, to
succeed the late Judge McKay.
Newman is one of Seunator Col
quitt's pets.
T press of Georgin generally
has been complimenting Webster
county on the return of Hon. D.
B. Harrell to the Legislature.
The Hou. David B. is able, relin
ble and popular, but his return is

lively opponeut in the petson of
Mr. W, H. Mercer,
' Or Georgia’s ten Coogressmen
; Norweod, Clements, Blount, Can
dler, Barnes and Crisp have been
re-nominated. In the fourth
Grimes will sueceed Harris and
Reese, in the eighth, has been de
feated by Charlton. Inthe fifth
the race is between Hammond and
' Stewart, with the chances in favor
of Stewart. In the second the
race is between Turner and Guer
ry with Mitchell and Jones hold
ing the balance of power. The
friends of both Guerry and Turn
[er are hopeful of the nomination
of their favorite.
WL the DawsoN JovexaL
please correct its table and give
Randolph to Turner in the con
gressional contest? It's sure to
be so, Brother Rainey.—Quitman
Free Press.
Our contemporary has been im
posed upon. The Randolph dele
gates are for Guerry and were se
lected because they were
known to be for him.
We know and have conversed
with some of these delegates and
have their word for it that when
Randolph is called in the eouven
tion the response will be two
votes for the young and brilliant
Guerry. Editor Perham has
struck a cold trail.
Krarr, the old Mexican and
Confederate veteran w bo has been
sojourningin Atlanta for several
days at the cityv’s expense, left for
Birmingham a few days ago,trans
portation having been procarad
for him by the Georgia Veteran's
association. Thus the poor old
warrior, who has served and suffer
ed so nobly for his country on ma
ny a battle field, rxce'vis as his re
ward a sort of continual “trans
portation for life,” until death
shall “pass him overthe road” free
for the last time. Then he'll get
‘a monument.
I'ur State Agricultural Conven
tion, so called, was in session in
Cartersville this week. President
Livingston, in his address, ex
vressed sywmpathv for the Knights
of Labor so long as they sought
their rights a* the ballot box. From
this we would infer that the pres
ident of the society is disposed to
want to see a Knight of Labor
party built up. Perhaps the Col
onel has some political aspirations.
—VYaldosta Times.
A rEw days ago a man named
Moore outraged a strange young
lady in Macon. He was arrested
and lodged in jail. Thursday
night a mob cf several hundred
men broke into the jail, took
Moore out and hung him to a tree
in front of the house where he
committed his dastardly deed.
The city and county authorities
did all in their power to protect
the prisoner from the mob, but
resistance was useless.
A sHORT time ago the JourvyaL
published an item to the effect
that a negro woman cooked a child
and served it for dinner at a pic
nic in Tatnall county. The Reids
ville Enterprise has investigated
the matter and declares the report
untrne. A very talented liar has
dounbtless been sojourning in that
gection,
Tue Atlanta department of the
Augusta Chronicle says:” “The
air of forbidden fruit that sur
rounds the bottle in a city where
bar. rooms are closed lends an ad
ditional charm to its woented ce
ductiveness, and proves irresisti
ble to young men who have just
brains enough to think it smart to
evade the law.”
Tue Newnan Advertisor notes
the fast that a colored milirary
company was recenlly organized
in that town and took the name
of “Sherman Guards.” They had
their drums and were drilling ut
a lively rate considering the warm
weather and the wmwelon season,
until the war-like news from Mex
ico put a quietus upon them.
AR e

himself in a fit of insanity, and
now Otto, the new king, shows ev
idence of insanity, and has been
contined. He faneies himself a
fowl. A foul state of things no
doubt exists in the government of
that country.
Taene are no new developments
in regard to the threatened war
with Mexico. Considerable talk
and letter writing is going on, and
for the sake of something excit
ing, to stir wp the people during
the dull swmmer months, the
newspapers have worked this seu
sation for all it is wortl,
' Corn. WHACK Barry is getting

By the time Col. Whack is whack

he will gather up his company
and return to the United States.
Cav’t Col. Whack be persuaded to
postpone his war?
Ovr Valdosta contemporary
“hopes Col. Guerry will do the
graceful thing and withdraw and
let Turner be nominated on the
first ba'lot.” Shades of Judas Is.
cariot! What cheek! The idea
ol Guerry withdrawing when he
stands such a fair chance of se
curing the nomination.
