was created by the mass of people

THE FARNUM HOUSE.
The Famous Dawson Hotel and a Few
Interesting Facts Abomt It.
A good hotel now-a-days, espe
pecially “on the road,” as the
commereial tourist terms it, is al
most a thing of the past. In
these days of vermin and oleo.
margarine, the commercial tourist
seldomn finds a good one, but
when he finds one you may be
sure he appreciates it.
The Farnum House, at Dawson,
is a good hote!, if the testimony
of the traveling public is taken
into consideration, and they at
least constitute the fial court of
appeals. A hotel is known by
the name it bears, and the Far
num House has been well chris
tened.
The proprietress, Mrs. W. (.
Carver, has not been content to
rest the laurels of the house on
its past good reputation, but is
constantly at work renovating
and repairing it, thus adding to
its comfort in every possible man
ner. For the better accommoda
tion of the travelling men, she
has recently added two large and
commodious sample rooms, which
will be found to be especially
adapted to their convenience.
The hotel is loeated in the
heart of the town, has a bus to
meet all the traine, and a livery
stable run in connection with the
house, thus insuring the utmost
convenience to the guests.
* When it comes to comfort, the
table is neatly spread, and at all
times is furnished with the best
the market affords prepared in
the neatest manner possigle.
Mrs. Carver is a splendid host
ess and always has an eye to the
comfort of her guests. The rates
are moderate, and the sojourner
in Dawson will find the i'm'num
Hous2 a delightful plice at which
to stop.—Macon Telegraph.
| Terrorized People,
Three weeks ago B. W. Furlong
brutally murdered a defenselass
uegro, and, with the aid of J. M.
Lofton and Thomas Sharon, bur
riel the body in a uorse lot within
a hundred and fifty yards of bis
house. A number of persons,
white and olack, had every reason
to believe that a marder had been
committed in their midst, and yet
not syllable was uttered that might
might lead to the punishmeni of the
perpetrators of this great crima un
til the principal actor had hurled
himself int> eternity and his
accomplices had fled. The fiest
news of this terrible tradgedy that
reached Alapaia was oa Fri
day evening of last week, the even
irg on which Furlong died. At
the inqnest some of the witnesses
testified that they knew they would
be killed if they mentionad their
suspicion to outsiders, and it was
this fear of Furlong that clogaed
the machinery of tha lew for three
weoks.— Alapaha Star.

Your correspondent, a few even

be made to flush the birds, so the
