Professor Frank Stookey treat
ed the citizeus of Dawson to a
tight rope performance last Thurs
day; not, however, until the citi
zens of Drawson had treated him
to Sof their cash. He tooka
tour through the erowd and col
locted $2 and then announced that
*here would be no performance
auless the crowd voluntarily made
up £6 more for him. He placed
the hat in the middle of thostreet,
withdrew to a convenient place
and complacently let himself
down to rest until the d:sired
amount was raised. Severa! gen
tlemen took the hat in charge arnd
soon collected the money and
the Professor proceeded with his
performance. His feats were all
good and the crowd was seeming
ly satisfied. The rops was
stretched from the posteflice to
the armory.

We learn from the attending |
physician that XMr. Tom ‘Yebb, '
who was so badly injured by a]
saw mill a few weeks since, is im
proving as fast as could ba ex- |
pected, he being able to get about |
the house. Hea 23 no use of the
injured arm whatever, all the
musele from the elbow to the
shoulder being entirely gone, and
the sense of feeling in thalower
portion of his arm and hand has
been completely destroyed.

Farm Hands on a Strike.
One day last week six of Me. H.
W. Turner's farm hands struoek
and quit work. They wauted Mr.
Tarner to increa_e their rations,
which were already quite liberal,
and allow them to ride his mules
whenever they wishad to. Thay
were promptly ordered away by
Mr. Turner, but two repentant
ones wera allowed to return to
wurk the next mornine.

Ben DelLoach, a negro, was
found dead Tuesday afternoon in
Notehaway swamp, on Mis. Peters’
plantation, about eight miles from
the city. Saturday Ben went out
hunting, and, oa nei relavning at
luight, search was instituted for
him and lasted until Tuesday,
‘when he was foundin the swamp
‘with a gun shot wound in bhis
‘breast. Coroner Daniel was noti
fied and an inquest was held, the
jury’s verdiet being to the effect
hat death was caused by the ac
cidental discharge of the gun.

On the 4th inst, Joseph Luther,
the youngest ehild of Dr. and Mrs,
E. C. Williford, aged one year.
