Report of the Raiiroad Commitee to
Colmmbus.
Your committee appointed to
meet the President nugo directors
of the Columbus Southern Rail
road, met and conferred with
those parties in the office of the
Presi«yent in Columbus on the
22nd inst.
Our meeting was altogether
harmenious and unanimously in
favor of the contemplated road.
That we may secare this inter
est the people of Terrell are asked
to subseribe $30,000 in stock.
In view of the benefits and ad
vantages to be derived the sum
18 small, and should be raised at
once.
We appeal to every ecitizen of
the county and ask that all come
forward and aid in this enter
prise. : - Loy
The advantages to us are too
numerous for publication here.
But prominent among them may
be cited, the direet and short line
to.the great coal and iron inter
ests of north Alabama and Geor
gl, th> new and direct avenue to
the markets of the West, almost
direct communication with Brans
wick, Jacksounvile and Southern
Florida, ard new markets and
short routes fof our own immense
timber and lumber inlorstse -
We cannot too urgently press
‘the peopls of Terrell to look well
‘to their interests and secure this
}-oad;,while the opportunity is of
erad. :
Other communities knowing
the importance and realizing the
advantages of the connections se
cared by this road, are making
liberal offels to divert the present
line from those sections to which
it is tendered and to induce those
in power to change its connections
80 as to increase their own inter
ests.
We also beg our neighbors,
Webster and Stewart, to come up
as one man and benefit themselves
by securing their subseriptions.

The Fort Smith, Ark., Daily Trib

field. The following is what the
Nashville Union says of Mr.

“Mr. James Owen O’Conor
presented Richeliea at the Opera
House last Wednesday evening.
He 1 a tragedian of wonderful
ability and power, and must have
made the ‘old Cardinal’ a life long
stuly. He received frequent and
reperted applause, which resound

O’Conor possesses a deep and
‘melodions voice, and com
pletely captivated the audience.
The costames were splendid, and
‘the support fair.”

The Sapper Friday Evening. -
The supper Fiven bg' the ladies
at the armory last Fiiday-evening
t» raise funds to repair the Meth
odist parsonige was a decided suc
cess. The hall presented such a
scene of gaiety as 1t never did be
fore. It was brilliantly lighted
and handsompl‘y rated and ar
ranged, and pretty girls and gal
lant youag men mingled with dig
nified matrons and polite gentle
men of maturer yéars. The sup
per was all that could be desired.
Everything was temptingly cock
ed, and the meats, salads, breals
and cakes were the perfection of
art. The ladies were uvususlly
attentive to the wants of the
crowd, and we have yet to hear
of one person who went away dis
eatisfied. Near the close of the
festivities of the eyening a cake
was voted to the most popular
young waitress. Each voter had
to pay ten cents for the privilege
of voting and he was allowed to
vote as often as he chose. There
was strong rivalry and when the
votes were counted it was found
that Miss Mary Speight Baldwin
had received the; hia’heat number,
and she was tfi@re re presented
with a magnificently- decorated
cake. ' o |
Tha entertainment realized
about $ll5. |

GeENTLEMEN—This past sum- !
mer (1886), my wife was away on |
a two months’ visit. Oa her re
turn howe she had a wretehed 1
cold: which growing worse, cans
ed ma to call in a physician, He
attended hor several weeks with
out venefiting her. She knowing
the splendid effect that S. S. §.
had had on me, determined to
testit in her case. At that time
slie had copious and disagreeable
discharges from the lefy nostril.
Before the firat bottleof S. 8. 8.
was used up, she was much bet
ter, and a few additional bottles
‘soon set her all right.
It is remarkable that S. 8. S. is
good for colds and sore throats.
A fow months ago I was occasion
‘ally troubled with my throat from
preaching., I carried a bottle’ of
| gwift's Specific with me on the
cirouit. &?henever my throat be
came irritated and annoyed me I
‘would take a dose of 8. S. 8, just
‘before retiring, and on awnken-l
ing Iwould be well.
