WHAT IT IS INTEXDED TO ACCOM
PLISH—THZ COXNECTING LINK
WITH THE GREAT RAILROAD SYS
: TEMS OF THE COUNTRY.
Columbas Enquirer.
This railroad is intended as the
completing link of the system
from Columbus, Ga., to a connec
tion with Brunswick, the great
Atlantic port and all the systems
of railroads centering in central
and eastern Florida. An exami
nation of the map of Georgia dis
closes the fact that for so short
‘a line it offers the most patent ad
vantagos and is the only needed
road to make a through line, with
out competition and through a
‘rich and untouched section. The
Georgia Midland and Gulf rail
road 18 now nearly finished for its
first division of ninety-seven
miles, from Columbus to McDon
ough with a connection with the
‘Enst Tennessee, Virginia and
Georgia railroad main stem. Its
“completion to an independent con
nection if required even beyond
this, is certainly in the hands of
the men who have invested in it.
The Columbus and Western
railroad from Columbus to Bir
mingham is being rapidly con
structed and both this and the
Midland and Gulf will be open
for business by October, 1887,
“The Columbus Southern railway
is to complete an independent and
ccmpeting system, which will en
ter Xanntn and makean independ
ent connection ir the northeast.
The Atlanta and Hawkinsville rail
road from Atlanta to a connection
with the Georgia Midland and
Gulf is now in eourse of con.
struction. From Columbus to Al
bany is 84 miles. The lino of the
Columbus Southern passes
through Muscogee, Chattahoo.
chee, %tewm‘t, Webster, Terrell,
Lee, and Dongherty counties, and
almost touching Randolph coun
ty.
An examination discloses the
fact that the section contiguous
to this line is rich in soil and its
products; the timbered lands
reaching the grand total of 604-
255 acres and studded with the
finest long leaf pine, for which
Georgia is famous. In these
counties there is no less than 805,-
000,000 feet of uncut “tiu.ber,
which would insure an income
fiom the same nearly equal to the
costoftheroad. Butitis the im
mense agrieultura] product and
rossibilities of this section thata
arge and ever certain business ean
be depended upon for aremunera
tive local business,the table show
ing in 1880 that per every mile of
the road there was 780 bales cot
ton., 3941 bushels cats, 13,517
bushels corn, 770 bushels wheat,
4050 bushels of potatoes, 3897
g‘znds butter, 1188 people, and
5,833 real value of property.
With the denuding of the for
eat will come increased cultivation
of the lands, as every acre of this
®ection is arable, and comprises
the richest cotton and grain land
of the south. With 750 bales of
cotton per mile in 1880, it is not
an exaggeration to expect 1000
bales per mile in 1890 with the
road completed; thus insuring a
certain ever-increasing, easily
handled and remunerative freight
business. At- Richland, only
thirty.seven miles - from Colum
bus, a connection independent and
mutal “will be made with the
Americus, Preston and Lumpkin
railroad with its already comple
ted road. This road is independ
eat of the Central railroad, and
anxions for a completing connec- ;
tion, will contribute its entire busi
ness to the Columbus Seathern,
wherd & junction is reached at
Richland, thirty-seven miles
from Columbus, The map
of Georgia shows the fact that
the Columbus Southern railway
will be built without a parallel or
ocompetor,

What the Mt. Lebanon Shakers
~ Found—lncident in the His
~ tory of a Quiet Community,
The Mount Lebanon (New
York) Shakers are a quiet com
munity, secluded from the fret
and worry of the outside world.
They are widely knpown, how
ever, for their strict honor and
probity in business, y
The Shakers believe that na
ture has aremedy for every dis
easc. A fewhave been found—
the rest are 28 yet unknown.
Many were discovered by acci
dent. Others came to light as
the result of patient experiment
and research. :
Nervous Dyspepsia is a com
paratively new (H:case, growing
out of the conditions of modern
life. Ttisa joint affection of
the digestive organs and of the
nervous system. These two
were formerly treated as sepa
rate ailments, and it was left
for the clear-sighted Shakers
‘o prove that the basis of this
terrible and often fatal compli
cation lies chiefly in the disord
ered and depraved functions of
digestion and nutrition. They
reasoned thus:—*“lf we can in
duce the stomach to do its
work, and stimulate the excre
tive organs to drive out of the
body the poisonous waste mat
ters which remain after thelife
giving elements of the food
have heen absorbed, we shall
have conquered Nervous Dys
pepsia and Nervous Exhaust
lon. Aund they were right,
Knowing the infallible power
of Shaker Extract (Seigel’s
Syrup) in less comg)licated
though similar diseases,
they resolved to test it fully
m this. To leave no ground
for doubt they preseribed the
remedy in hundreds of cases
which had been pronounced in
curable—with perfect success
in every instance where their
directions as to living and diet
were scrupulously followed.
Nervous Dyspepsia and Ex
baustion is a peculiarly Ameri
can disense. To a greater or
less extent half the people of
this country suffer from it—
both sexes and all ages. Inno
country in the world are there
80 mauy insane gsylums filled
to overflowing, fl{] resulting
from this alarming disease, Its
leading symptoms are these:
Frequent or contirual head.
ache; a dull pain at the base
of the brain; lbad breath ; nau
seous eructations; the rising
of sour and pungent fluids to
the throat; a sense of oppress
ion and faintness at the pit of
the stomach ; flatulence; wake
fulness and loss of sleep; dis
gust ‘with food even when
weak from the need of it; sticky
or slimy matter on the teeth or
in the mouth, especially on ris
ing in the moiming; furred and
coated tonguc; dull eyes; cold
hands and fect; constipation;
dry or rough skin ; inability to
fix the mind on any labor call
ing for continuous attention;
and oppressive and sad - fore
bodings and {ears. 4."‘
All this terrible group
Shaker ~ Extract (Seigel’s
Syrup) removes by its pos
itive, powerful, ({irect yet
painless and gentle action upon
the functions of digestion and
assimilation. Those elements
of the food that build up and
strengthen the system are sent
upon their mission, while all
waste matters (the ashesof life's
fire) which unremoved, poison
and kill, are expelled from the
body throngh tfzc bowels, kid
neys and skin. The weak and
prostrated nerves are quieted,
toned and fed by the purified
blood. As the result, health,
with its enjoyments, blessings
and power, returns to the suf
ferer who had, perhaps, aband-,
oned all hope of ever seeing
another wel{ dny. )
