Ouar justice court held its regu
lar mounthly session last Saturday,
bat owing to the absence of one of
the oflicers of eourt with nearly all
the papers, but few of " the
cases on docket wore tried. It
was said by some one present that

the aforesaid officer to go off and
take the papers with him. Daw
son was reprezsented by Colonels
Simmons and Grigas and Messrs.
J. D. Laing and M. G. Statham.
Marriad—On Thursday, the 3rd
st at the residence of the bride’s
father, near this place, Miss Min
nie L. Kitchens and Mr. J. W.

Again awe are called upon to
chroniele the death of one of our
respected citizens. Mr. J. A. Car
ter, who had been sick for the past
two weeks, died on Sunday last.
His remains were interred at the
Methodist church cemetery on
Monday. Mr. Carter was a lead
ing member of the Methodist
lclmrch and a good citizen. He
leaves a wife and four little child
ren to mourn an irreparable lors,
The sorrowing ones have eur sin
cere and profound sympathies.
We want to put ourself on rec
ord as being 1n opposition to the
stock law, as advocated by our
‘honorable grand jury, and we
think we veice the sentiment of
the msjority of the working class
of Terrell county. |
Mr. J. D. Foster's dog went
mad the other day and bit several
hogs and cows. Mr. Foster pro
cared a gun and promptly dis
patehed the dog to the happy
hunting ground.
Mr. John King informs us that
there have been several mad dogs
killed on his side of the creek
lately.
Farmers should plant plenty of
corn this year. There is quite a
searcity of corn in this section
wow, and should the oat crop
prove to be a failure, this section
would be in an ug!y plight. |

bright, newsy sheet, and we wish
for itz editor and proprietor a

and hope that Bronwood may yet

Raised for the Columbus Southern.
The people of Terrell have sub
saribed $27,000 of the 30,000
asked of them towards the build
ing of the Colaumbus Soathern.
The committee is now actively at
work, and there is no doubt that
in a day or two the $£3,000 yot
lacking will be subscribed. Every
man is able to take at least one
share.
The people of Chattahoochee
county have already raised the
full amount asked of them.
Homicide.
Last Friday on the S. K. Tay
lor plaece, in the Southeastern
part of the county, Jack Tyson,
colored, shot and killed John
Whaley, also colored. [t seems
the two had previously had a fall
ing out about some land and Wha
loy threatened to whip Tyson.
Friday they met in the road,
Whaley with a walking stick and
Tyson with a gun, when the form
er repeated his threats and ad
vanced on Tyson,who stepped back
and discharged the contents of his
weapon into his antagonist. Soon
Saturday morning Sheriff Mar
shall had the murderer in his
keeping and at a hearing before
Justice J. M. Simmons Monday
morning he was bound over to
await the May term of the Supe
rior Court.
Runaway.
The quictude of Dawson was
somewhat disturbed last Monday
afternoon by a double runaway.
A piar of oxen attached to a cart
became frightened and started
down Main streest in Maud S.

Harris’ horse, which was hiched
to a wagon and tied to a post near
Kendriek’s drug store, joined in
the race. The horse ran against

wagon, but the oxen “kept in the
middle of the road” and were not
checked until one of them broke
loose from the cart near Mercer's
bank.
Couneil Meeting.
The regular monthly meeting
of the City Council was held Mon
day night.
The committee appointed to s«
lect a site for a new guard hous
stated that they had not yet been
able to secure a suitable location
fcr it, and an exteution of time
was granted then. to make a final
report.
The committee on cisterns re
ported that they were going ahead
with their work. The new eistern
near the court house is ready for
the brick mason.
The Supper To-morrow Night.
At the Armory Iriday (to-mor
row ) night the firemen of Dawson
will give a grana supper for the
purpose of raising furds with
which to buy new usiforms. The
supper will be presided over by
the matrons and young ladies of
Dawson which fact will insure the
full attendance of the young men.
Daring the evening the new hose
carriage will be named after the
young lady cr little girl receiving
the highest number of votes.
Everybody is invited to attend
and spend a pleasant evening.

Billie Mclntyre, the young man
‘who conducted a barbershop in
the basement beneath the post
office for severval weeks, left the
city in a very informal manner a
few nights siuce, forgetting to tell
any one good bye. He left sever
al unpaid bills as reminders that
he was once among us.

Col. J. H. Guerry was elected
Captain of the Dawson Guards
last Saturday to fill the vacanc:

The Columbus Enquirer-San
of the sth inst says: “The com
mittee appointed to canvass for
subseriptions in Muscogee county
to the Columbus Southern rail
road held a meeting yesterday af
ternoon and decided to begin
work in earnest to-day. All of
the counties have about raised
their proportion of the amount re
q\uired, and it now remains for
Columbus and Muscogee county
to say whether the project shall
be a failure. We do not think
that Columbus will fail to do her
duty in this emergency.”
