A yom g man mimed Mixion was caught by an alligator a few days since while bathing in the Suwannee river near Benton. Tho alligator carried ,<lio young man under the water, but reappeared in two or three minutes with Mixion in his jaws. Mixion cried to liis companions to shoot, but before a guu could be dis charged ho sank again, taking Mixion under with him. About two minutes after he urose again and struck for tho opposite shore, still having the ill-fated young mau iu,his enormous mouth. Again Mixion called upon kiB companions to shoot, but being afraid of hitting Mixion, no ono dis charged his gun. The alligator crop some half a doeen feet upon tho op posite bank, remaining about three minutes, when, guided by a sudden impuluo, ho plunged with his pre cious burden into the river again, and regel.ing the middle sank to riso no more within tho view of the party. A thorough search was made but nought, could bo seen of tho body or p trta of the body of the unfortu nate young man. Runaways. — The race for Gov ernor and members of the Legis lature seems to have put a spirit of rutinig into some of our horses, nearly every day since the election we hear of a runaway, but no seri ous damage to parties as yet re ported except the case of Air. Bry ant Watkins who was thrown from his frighted horse Saturday night by the breaking of the girth and so badly hurt as to be confined to h’sbed through the day (Sunday) He is improving at this writing and we hope to see his cheerful face again on the streets in a few days.
