These facts it would seem to mo ought to move oveq tlio liar keeper to say L am a tem perance man anti inspire them to for ever close their doors against the sale of it. But I do hope that these re fit p ions may enable each and all of you to say that you will not do as they have done. Now on the other hand let us see who aro the beneficiaries of temperance, f|rst we say the map that docs not use, lie has no bad toolings rom its etibets, no apprehensions ol having wounded the feelings of his as soeiates oy mortified the heart of loved ones at home, no mother to weep and sigh at the disgraceful acts of her boy. No remorse of conscience that lie lias done wrong in this respect or been the means of leading others to do so. No false charges to meet by an oftended companion or apology to make for un conscious acts while drunk, none ot these, while lie that does not sell or make has this to cheer him on his way, tho father is fond of his boy, the moth er is rejoiced at his stand, the sister is honored by his act, while tho bfotliei is saved by his example. All this and nnd more than this is the result ol temperance. Society will love you, the church will encourage you, while even tho drunkard will honor you. And now my young friends you arc but observers perhaps, or will be at the January elections, some however may act, if so, L liavo a word to say to you, there is no better evidence of” what the \yatovs of Buffalo creek, bounded a man is than is shown in what lie does, .f mt h fo’ JIr8, w - cn8t fl by , J ‘ L have grasped the temperance flag and - - -- J am endeavoring to plant the colors at tho public gate, there to testify to the rising generation, and to say to you my young friends, that intemperance lias no place tit the ballot box. Will you help ine ? To you that observe only, I will say, watch the result, if I fall let it not be said, his cause go with him, no, nev er, raise it again and again, until victory shall crown our efforts. And then if your examples are followed you will In no apprehension of having '.ed any one to fill a drimkqrds grave or blighted the hopes of any who iqay go with you, let it not be said that hope of office gain affords a just pretext to pave, the way that leads within the walls of sorrow, but to the contrary open wide the door that exposes the inmates hold an office. Intemperance is the inas3 that hides tho true man, it bedims eyes and lessens the judgement, and thereby disqualifies the man to vote, therefore I would adopt the language of holy writ, and say, “touch not, handle not, the unclean tiling.” J.
