from acorns distributed by the govern

Hoiv Watches are Made.
It will be apparent to any ono, who
will examine n Solid Gold Watch, that
aside from the necessary thickness for
engraving and polishing a large propor
tion of the precious metal used, is nee
ded only to stiffen and hold the engrav
ed portions in place, and supply the
necessary solidity and strength. Tho
surplus gold is actually needless so fai
ns utility and beauty arc concerned. In
Jamus Boss’ Patknt Goi.d Watch
Casks, this waste of precious metal is
overcome, and the same solidity and
strength produced at from ouc-third to
one-half of the usual cost of solid cases.
This process is of the most simple na
ture, as follows: A plato of uiokle
.ompositiou metal, espouially ndaptod
to tho purpose, has two plates of solid
gold soldered on each side. The Ihreo
arc then passed between polished steel
rollers, and the result is a strip of hoavy
plated composition, from which the
cases, backs, centres, bezels, aro
cut and shaped by suitable dies and for
mers. Tho gold in these cases is suf
ficiently thick to udmit of all kinds of
chasing, engraving and enameling ; the
engraved cases have been carried until
wo°m perfectly smooth by time and use
without removing tho gold.
This is the only case made with two
plates of Solid Gold, and warranted by
gpeciul certificate.
