In Japan everybody takes a real
liot bath once a day. The rich bathe
before dinner and at night. The
whole household dip iu the same
water. Precedence is given to visit-
prs, then the fillers, followed by the
young people according to age, and
then the servants. On getting out
oftheca)dron each bather gargles
mouth and throat with cold arma-

Editor ok The Mercury:
Dear uncle Me.—You must mit get
mad with us for claiming kin with
you. Our teacher lias been brin
ing newspapers to the sdiool room
and reading letters to us Unit other
hildreii wrote and they called the
editor uncle, and if you will not ob
ject we will be your nieces and neph
ews. We have been wanting to write
to you for some time, but we have
•ecu “a talking, and a talking” about
a holiday and thought that we would
wait till after we had it. So we could
tell you all about it. Wc decided
that we would go to the OhoopCe
Friday before lust but you reinembei
that the day was cold and cloudy
and we, like good children, listened
to tin* advice of our teacher and par
ents and put it oil' till last Friday.
Well, Friday morning bright min
early three of our boys, in company
with Mr. Carter went on ahead of
the rest in a buggy. The road k-u
across Mr. A. Y. II. Jordan's Held
and they liked to have got lost.Tho}
passed the right road and had to
Hint around and go back. The crown
behind, some walking nnd some rid
ing left Mrs. J. J. Davis’s about 6
o’clock nnd plucking dow
ers all tho way, in good time reached
the beautiful swamp of the Ohoopoe.
Among the plants wo gathered was
one that resembled a pine apple, and
one of the boys nfdrmed it was a pine
apple. Now, uncle Me, if some ot
us had not studied geography wc
would have certainly thought like
our little boy that it was pine apple.
after we got to the swamp
we began to unroll our lines to pm
them on polos and such hollering fm
a pole and line was never heard. Wc
scattered up and down the banks of
the Ohoopie and tried to lie quiet but.
you know uncle Me, children can’t
be still by any means in the world,
and after fishing a while everybody
began to call dinner ! dinner ! and
when wc gathered our crowd wc seat- 1
rfd ourselves on the ground and eat.
wc had a nice dinner and plenty of
it. After dinner wo wont down tin
stream some on one side and some
on the other, and were all seated,
when wc saw a snake nnd killed hiii.,
and after we lind killed him what do
you reckon Master Mat English did V
Well, lie took the snake and tied it
around his neck nnd called it his
neck tie. If you could have seen him
you would have laughed. Not long
before dinner we hoard music in the
direction from which we came, and
who could it be but Mr. fidgety Jul
ian l’eelcr and Master Eddie Smith,
instead of them bringing their fish
ing tackle they brought a harmonica,
gun and pistol; while we were seated
by the banks of the Ohoopie “they
entertained us by shooting in the
water and playing on the harmonica.
Mr. Fidgety could not be satisfied
until he had put water on the most
of us. Well, unele Me, we will not
say any more about our holiday foi
fear our letter is too long for yom
paper and you will put it in the waste
basket. If you wish to claim kin
with ns we will write you more let
ters when school opens again for wc
are now having vacation.
