demonstrated, beyond all question,
that we can, in Middle Georgia, su<
cessfully raise all the wheat we want.
Mr. Murphey has a live acre patch
on his farm, which lie has planted
in wheat eleven successive years.
Tho .smallest yield, of the eleven, was
seventy-six bushels and the largest
150 bushels. Every crop of
wheat has followed a crop of pons, of
an early variety, which lie plants
without manure, in rows about tliri
feci apart and cultivates. He 1ms
never failed, during the eleven years,
to make a good crop of peas. Soon
as the peas are gathered or consum

case by the second week in October,
lie broadcasts over the patch from
15 to 20 bushels of killed cotton
seed per acre, sows the wheat, about
II peeks per acre, turns it under with
turning plow and his labors arc
ended till harvest. This process lias
been repeated as if by clock work
for eleven successive years, and Mr.
Murphcy lms been rewarded with an
average yield of something over one
hundred bushels of wheat per annum
otf of his 5 acre patch. The soil of
the patch is light, with clay subsoil.
