On last Friday week as the down
passenger train of the central road
came around this side of Jcrnigans
crossing, the ciigincer was sure ho
saw a man iu a perfectly-nude slate
standing directly on the track in the
way of the cars. He did., nut have
time to reverse his engine so he lets
his engine run ahead at the uaual
speed, fully believing that harm
would result to the supposed crazy
matt ahead. Upon arriving at Ten-
uillc, he recounted hi. experience to
l)r. Irwin, conductor of the Sunders-
villc train, saying that the man was
surely crazy and would probably bt
killed by somclrniu following, two
gentlemen went up there and up
on arriving there discovered “ouly a
poor old wanderer." Evidently
taking a cleansing bath, aud in ,ro-
ply to their query, what he
was doing, unconcernedly remarked;
why, don’t ysu see I’m washing? It
is necessary to keep clean, so I'm
rubbing off the dust gathered from
my weeks weary and dusty travel
They concluded that rh# man was
not crazy, so they left him in peace
to pursue his bath, while they went
hack to Tennillo thinking the engi
neer was either blind or a fool. It
is thought however that this was thu
same tramp that war. killed later hy
a freight train near Oconee.
