The subject of baldness i* once more
under discussion,and we are told,remarks
the Boston ( 1 ouHer s that onc-lmlfof all
American men, above the age of thirty,
hip partially bald; and. as thin charac
teristic is one of those most likely to ho
transmitted from father to son, it in fair
*o suppose that a few generations hence
adult Americans with hair on their pates
will ho rate. There are, of course, the
usual spccuh»tion<to the effect that the
excessive mental activity of our people is
believed to Ik* tin* chief cause of this
baldness, while it is added that n medi
cal authority advises against wearing the i
luit so continuously, as many men do, |
and the wearing at any time of an un j
ventilated hat. All of which Is most im
proving and instructive, ami all of which |
will have no possible effect upon the j
course we are pursuing. The idea of n j
bald-headed race of men is not an espec
ially attractive one; hut it may he that
with the change will come a taste for it, |
so that a man with hair on his scalp will i
be regarded as only tit for the dime inn- |
scum.
