This is an old story, and it has its
ics-on. Those who sin are pretty j

It is told of'Charles (leorgo Gordon
that when in tho Soudan, nno linlf hour
each morning there lay before his tent
door a hnudkorehief, “Aud.’’ says tho
one Writing of it, “ the whole cuup
knew the sfgnilicnuco of that small
token, and most religiously was it re
spoctod. No foot dated to cuter the tent
so guarded No message however pres
sing, was tarried in; whatever it was
of life or death—it had to wait until the
signal was with drawn. Every oue
knew that God anil Gordon were alone
there together”
Wlmt a reproof is this to llioso of us
who live “fri in hand to mouth,” as re
gards prayer! If the in u-uii-g holds n

little world keep away from in and give
us a chance, if tho wants do not press
in too clamorously, and, above all if we
onn doit unohtruvively—tu a way ti nt
tells none wlmt wo are about we with
draw and hold communion with the Ouc
our failh holds to, condensing or a
pnnding the time as circumstances seem
to warn nt. Is this not true? iH this
not a fair representation of the, way
most of us draw our heavenly store for
the (1iij"h mod? Now, not until we ays,

and any. "I must have this daily supply
of grace, and I will;" not until wo place
the day’s duties Imck of us resolutely

“Wait!" can wo hope to scale the higher
walls w here the sun rests continually
