grand old state in front of her South

awakened all over ttit State, and we
hope our county will strive not to
fall behind others in their exhibits.
Old Washington should equal any
other, we know she can if the people
lake any interest in seeding their

An error seems to have crept into
the minds of the young men ot the
State that the torch.light-procession
in honor of the President will be lim
ited to young men coming in orga
nized companies. It is true about
200 companies have been organized;
and at least 50 more are expected,
but they wish to mass the largest
number of young men seen in Geor
gia since the surrender. They wish
to reserve a space for a block on each
aide of the reviewing stand, for those
bearing torches, where they will dis.
band to hear an address from the
young men, response by the Presi
dent, and then be tendered a recep
tion by the President an 1 Mrs. Cleve
land. To fill this space 15,000 men
hearing torches are wanted. There
will be a torch, and opportunity' to
inarch in ranks given to each young
jnan who will apply. Every young
man in Georgia is cordialy invited to
wn r tb this procession.

Southern Farmers.
The Times-Democrat reprehends,
(and very Justly too) Commissioner
Coleman, of the Agricultural Depart

Govermcnt sorghum experiments at
Fort /Scot, that white men could not

Mr. Col man does not know much
about our Southern land or he would
huye made quite a dil’erent report.
We quote the following.
“If he were acquainted with the
facts, he would know that white men
do work in the fields cf the South,
and that, too, as hard and industri
Ously as the colored laborers. He
would know also, that the white men
raise a large proportion of the cot

If Mr. Colman will visit the South
tye will be shown the ipsults of the
white mau’s labor, and we have no
clouclt but that some of our farmers
will let him follow behind ip the fur
row that they plow and leach him
fucts that an employee of the Agri
cultural Depralment of the greatest
agricultural country should be ac
quainted with. He will also discover
that the heaviest labors of the farm
are performed in the spring and full,
when the white'man, as a laborer, on
account of climatic influences, is noi
interfered with, and that the farmers
ot the North and West are not bles
sed in Climate and productions as
those of the South, t
