Eighteen ex-union soldiers attended the funeral cf the late George W. Kirby last week. They could not, of course, attend as representing the G. A. R. for Mr. Kirby was not a member. The pe¬ culiarity about the incident was that he had been a soldier in the Confederate army and these old yeterans attended his funeral as neighbors of course, and further out of respect to bis bravery and valor as an opponent on the field of battle which tries men as by fire. Mr. Kirby was in the siege of Vicksburg and was there struck by a piece of shell. James A. Darnell and Silas Sweeney, of this city, fought opposite Kirby and were instrumental in getting out these eighteen who atttended the funeral in a body. The incident came to our knowledge since the burial. No one respects a brave soldier more than those who have fought against him, and no one else can so well appre¬ ciate his valor. This incident shows that the bittter animosities engendered by the war have largely died away among those who fought.—Winlerset (la.) Review. They Recommend Ulmmberlain’s Cough Remedy. In a letter to the manufacturers, Messrs. Davis & Buzzard, of West Monterey. Pa., says: Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy has cured people whom our physicians could do noth¬ ing for. We persuaded them to try a bottle of it and they now recommend it, as do the rest of us. For sale at 25 and 50 cents per bottle by J. II. Goodman & Co., Druggists. Strayed or Stolen.
