Hon. Pope Brown
To Quit Office
Hawkinsville, Ga., Feb. 28.—
Hon. J. Pope Brown, state treas¬
urer, will not be a candidate to
succeed himself, according to
statement issued to the public to¬
day.
When asked as to tne rumor
that lie would resign before the
expiration of his term, Mr. Brown
said:
“I have entertained no thought
of resigning; it is my purpose to
serve out my present terra, but I
will not be a candidate to succeed
myself.”
Mr. Brown states that the
reason he does not care to continue
as state treasurer is because the
position is out of his line of life-
work and does not suit him,
“Really, I accepted the place
with much reluctance,” he states,
“but was very glad that I did so
when I found how favorably my
appointment was received by the
people. It was very gratifying
and made me feel exceedingly
grateful.”
Mr. Brown has rented the
furnished house of Samuel Lump¬
kin, at 704 Piedmont avenue, At¬
lanta, and will occupy it uftc"
March 1 for six months.

SO Per Cent Better 1 m
“I .have used less than one bottle of Cardui ,** writes m
Mrs. Gertrude Ward, of Rushville, Neb., “and am feeling %
fifty per cent better than when 1 began taking it. 4
“Before taking Cardui, I had suffered with female
trouble, for eight years. My greatest trouble was irregu¬ m a
larity. 1 also suffered with severe pains, every month,
but now 1 am greatly improved and will recommend Car¬
dui to all my suffering friends.”

The Woman’s Tonic
The rare medicinal herbs of Cardui are imported by
the manufacturers direct from Europe and are not to be
found ;n any other medicine.
These ingredients are what give Cardui its superiority,
as a female medicine and tonic, over any other medicine.
For over 50 years Cardui has been the favorite wom¬
an’s medicine. The ladies like it, beoause it is so easy
to take, so gentle, so safe, so reliable in its results, and
they have faith in its curative tonic powers, because of
the thousands of other ladies it has helped. Try it today.

Oppose Sale Of Nea.r
Beer
Columbus, Ga., Eebruary 26—
The Muscogee grand jury has
gone on record as opposing the
legalizing of the sale of near beer
in Georgia. In the regular present¬
ments, returned to the superior
court late yesterday, appears the
following on the subject:
“We, in compliance with the
charge of the judge on the subject,
bring to public attention two facts,
namely:
“First—That a large part of the
time of our courts and the conse-
in wliich negroes are
“Second—That the disorder and
crime among the colored
tion is much increased where the
use of whisky, beer or near beer
is allowed. ]!«.<*, the opportuni-
ty for indulgence of such unlor-
tunate and vicious appetities should
ml be fostered by any pecuniary
or other cons, derat,on, the right to
purchase the privilege of license
of debauching this element of our
population. In the estimation of
the public, and in our opinion,
near beer saloons, so-called, very
largely contribute to the sale of
beverages which have damaging
effects upon the best interests of
society.
“We therefore recommed to our
senators and representatives in the
legislature that they work to
secure the repeal of all laws autho¬
rizing near beer saloons.”
Mr. J. S. Iihowden, of Valdosta,
was among the visitors here Tues¬
day.
