Teddy is coming, and the insur¬
gents of the G. O. P. are tremb¬
ling.
The way they are voting up in
Yankeydom indicates that the G.
O. P. is doomed.
We have had rain and rain the
past ten days, but none too much,
as the ground was exceedingly
dry.
The census taker is abroad in
the land, and we have all got to
answer some embarrassing ques¬
tions.
Reports from the fruit growing
section of the state are to the
effect that the recent cold spell
did not hurt the peaches, and the
prospects are bright for a splen¬
did yield, for which we are all
thankful.
Some contend that the world is
growing better, some that it is
growing worse. We suspect that
it is the same old rockin, erring,
sinful world it has been .ever since
that little affair in the garden of
Eden,—and ever will be.
Every crime committed, and
every disaster that occurs on the
earth these days, is charged to
Halley's comet, as though the
same old crimes and same old dis¬
asters have not been happening
ever since the fall of Adam.
Four lots on north Main street.
advertised by Wm. Friend was
sold a few days ago to Mr. Cass,
of Indiana for $1,000. Mr. Cass
bought it as an investment, as he
is confident Fitzgerald dirt will
continue to increase in value.
Comptroller Wright is being
boomed by some of the papers as
a candidate for governor against
Governor Brown. If Mr. Wright
wants to be sure of a political job,
he had better run for re-election
to the ofiice he now occupies, and
has occupied for many years.
The County Executive Commit¬
tee meets to-morrow morning at
10 o’clock, and the time for the
entry of candidates for the pri¬
mary will have closed. The candi¬
date who fail to pay his entrance
fee by that time will he taken off'
the track. Those who do pay,
will be lined up before the grand
stand, the signal given, and away
they will go on the home stretch.
Mr. Wm. Friend, the veteran
real estate agent, brought Wednes¬
day to this office, a sample of
as fine clover as was ever grown
anywhere. He says many people
are of the opinion that clover can
not be grown here, but any one
who sees this sample will be con-
vinced that it can. In fact almost
anything that can be raised
where else can be successfully
*
raised here in Ben Hill county.
The papers and politicians arc
saying that .Judge “Dick" Russell
will be a candidate for governor.
•fudge Bussell resigned his place
on the superior court bench in
19011 to run for governor, and was
left out in the cold. But when
tbe Court of Appeals was establish-
ed he was fortunate enough tube
elected one of the judges. He
may not be so fortunete next time.

A $10,000 Building
|T or FitzgereJd
If the citizens of Fitzgerald un¬
derstood the plan and purpose of
The American Woman’s League
they would set to work to get the
beautiful $10,000 Chapter House
as they worked in getting the vari-
ous industries Fitzgerald now en-
joys. To get this kind of a Chap
ter House 200 people or more
would have to join the League and
increase the circulation of the 108
different magazines and periodi-
cals now associated with the
League to the amount of $52.00.
Each applicant can subscribe
for one or a dozen of the periodi¬
cals or send them to any person
for any number of years as a gift.
If the magazines are not wanted
at the time of joining subscription
certificates can be taken and these
certificates are good for subscrip-
t* ons or renewals at any time in
^* ie * u *' ure ; hen the members
* jave qualified for the Chapter
House, they not only get a beauti-
Diiilding in which all Ladies
Organizations can meet, but each
member and her children has free
access t°r hfe ^ ie Conespon-
dence schools, the Loan and Re¬
lief Fund, the Home for aged and
dependent women, the Orphanage,
and income from the Founder’s
Chapter Endowment.
These Chapter Houses are beau¬
tifully furnished with Mission
Furniture, a Grand Phonograph
and many other attractive things.
The local Chapter gets 25 per cent
of all subscriptions and renewals
to all magazines subscribed for
through the League everafter-
wards.
No doubt Fitzgerald citizens
now pay for $6,000 to $3,000
worth of magazines every year
and they just as well have one of
these Chapter Houses as to not
have it.
There are now several members
of the League in the city and if
the Ladies’ Clubs would join the
League the same as they have done
in over S00 other towns and cities
over the United States, the Local
Chapter would soon have a budd¬
ing equal to any thing in the town.
It beats the Carnegie plan in
many ways and the city is not
called on every year for a thous¬
and or more to keep it up.
The League is backed by the
largest and most influential busi-
ness > n America, the publishing
business. Fifty per cent of every
dollars worth ot subscription or
renewals : or the various magazines
no " connected with the League
into the treasury of the Na¬
tional Organization, and with this
money the Chapter Houses, the
Correspondence schools and all
other institutions of the League
are maintained,
Theie will soon be 100,000 mem-
bers who will have sent $52.00
worth of subscriptions or purchas-
ed the certificates. This alone
gives the League $2,000,000 and
it will be easier to get another
member® than it was to
get the first 20,000.
Mr. E. G. L 'wis. of The Lewis I
Pub. Co., started the movement
anc * proved to be such a success
that he had no trouble in getting
I the other publishers to join in with
the plan until now there are over
100 of the best publishing concerns
affiliated with the movement. The
League is not only going to be a
means of uplifting and protecting
its members, but it will be the
! means by reason of the powerful
i press behind it. of exposing graft,
and bringing about many reforms,
J am surprised that Fitzgerald
citizens have not long ago secured
one of t hese Chapter Houses. In
this way every person who sub-
scribes for magazines contributes
to tins ...... budding v and , why . b ... itzger-
aid can not have one of the
buildings is something the writer
cannot understand, and here is
hoping they will do so.
