Green Receives
Painful Wound
Mr. Vincent H. Green had a
narrow escape from serious injury
last Tiiursday night whiieoutauto-
mobiling.
In company with :i young lady
about eight o'clock, lie passed
the residence of Dr. Ed. Dorrniuy
on Main street, when suddenly
and without warning someone
threw a large piece of coal at the
machine, striking Mr. Green on
the back of his head. A deco
gash was cut and the blood gushed
forth.
Fortunately the young man was
not rendered unconscious by the
blow, for if he had. and the young
lady not knowing how to manage
the car, it would have been wreck¬
ed and possibly one or both of the
occupants fatally injured. With
presence of mind, however, Mr.
Green steered the machine to
Denmark’s Drug Store where
physicians dressed the wound,
which required three stitches.
Mr. Green was at first quite be¬
wildered and at a loss to account
for what lie considered a cowardly
attack in’the dark, inasmuch as he
was not aware that he had any
enemies, but an investigation
brought to light the perpetrators
of the deed. Two small boys,
Bowen Shepherd and Lee Dormin-
ey, were on opposite sides of the
street and were engaged in throw¬
ing rocks at each other, when
the auto passed, one of which
struck Mr. Green.
It is not thought that the boys
had any malicious intent, as has
been rumored by some that they
were concealed behind bushes and
were throwing rocks at every one
who passed—be that as it may,
they should not have been throw¬
ing missiles on the public highway,
and judging from the severe rep¬
rimand each of the youngsters
received from his parents, it is
thought that they will not be
guilty of the offence again.
Mr. Green’s wound, while a
very painful one, indeed, and slow
of healing, is not serious, and
does not prevent him from attend
ing to his business affairs.
That he escaped so narrowly is
considered miraculous as the
missile struck him within a half-
inch of the base of the brain, and
the doctors state that, had that
spot been hit. it would have
proved fatal.

Flies are a very affectionate
“kind,” which is about the only
admirable trait they possess but
the great trouble is that the more
affectionate they become, the
greater is the health of the one
upon whom they bestow their
affection jeopardized—so our ad¬
vice is to either kill them or bar
them from your house.
