Hen Lays Framed
Picture
Edmund Rostand’s “Chanteeler”
is rivaled for distinction by an
unassuming female of the feather-
ed family owned by Miss Mary
Weaver of Front Royal. Va.
This hen is equipped with
modern methods of photography.
She has laid an egg bearing the
clear cut, framed picture of some
person whom she must have focuss¬
ed about the yard. The original
of the photograph lias not been
found, buttle remarkable incident
has excited the neighborhood, and
Miss Weaver has many visitors.
Amateur scientists are trying to
solve the problem of how Mrs.
Hen manipulates her lenses so
to photograph and frame on a two-
cent egg the picture of some passer-

A near accident occured Friday
afternoon, when Mr. Jim Parrott
in his automobile collided with
Mr. Doc. Deese who was driving
Col. Jay’s colt hitched to a sulky.
The accident occured on Grant
street in front of the Leader office,
and caused much excitement. ‘
With the exception of breaking
the lantern on the auto and bend¬
ing one of the wheels of the sulky,
there was no damage done. Both
the drivers were fortunate in escap¬
ing unhurt, and the colt, although
he fell down and got tangled in
the shafts, received only a mere
scratch on his thigh.

Communication
Editor Leader,
It is reported that our city coun¬
cil gave to a private corporation a
twenty year telephone franchise
and that our people are not even
permitted to ratify such action and
that a valuable franchise, worth
probably $50,000, is given abso¬
lutely free to parties, without ap¬
proval from the public or from
competition from other companies.
Under a former administation
when our street car franchise was
granted how well the city’s inter¬
ests were protected we all are fa¬
miliar but under a “business” ad-
ministration we are having some
very queer politics.
Respectfully,
Jas. Brown.
