Dan Johnson Killed
By John Cowart
Saturday night at Douglas Dan
Johnson, a fireman on the Georgia
and Florida railroad was shot and
killed by John Cowart, an engineer
on the same road.
It seems that the two men were
drinking some and that Cowart
was walking along pranking with
his gun very carelessly.
Johnson cautioned him not to be
handling the pistol so recklessly
and it is said that Cowart then
turned on Johnson saying:
“You think I’m not game”
with these words the pistol was
discharged, the lead entering
Johnson’s abdomen. This was at
11:30 p. m. and the wounded man
survived only two hours.
Johnson and Cowart are said
to have been good friends and
Johnson stated before his death
that the shooting was accidental.
Cowart was arrested and placed
in jail.

adopted by some of the largest banks in
the country. It affords absolute protec¬
tion to the bank depositor and under a
special contract with The Fidelity and
Casualty Company, of New York, The
Third National Bank gives this guarantee
to its depositors without extra charge,
paying the usual rate on Savings Deposits.
The Bond company is one of the largest in
America and can only guarantee deposits
where the policy of the bank is sound.
