50 Per Cent Better
“1 have used less than one bottle of Cardui,” writes
Mrs. Gertrude Ward, of Rushville, Neb., “and am feeling
fifty per cent better than when 1 began taking it.
“Before taking Cardui, 1 had suffered with female
trouble, for eight years. My greatest trouble was irregu¬
larity. 1 also suffered with severe pains, every month,
but now 1 am greatly improved and will recommend Car¬
dui to all my suffering friends.”
J ^ CARDUI

the manufacturers Gin.:a from Europe and are not to be

Examine Man More
Than His Pa.rty,
Says Barreit
'
Union City, Ga., Dec. 28—De¬
claring that it is not the political
label, but the bona-fide actions
that define a man’s principles,
President C. S. Barrett, of the
i National Farmers’ union, has ad¬
dressed the following letter to the
officers and members of the or-
1 ! ganizatfon.
1 Throughout America one of the
i leading topics for discussion is the
? recent elections, and the political
■oveiturn which has given the
Democratic party a strong majori¬
ty in the national house of repre¬
I sentatives.
Naturally the farmers of 'this
country, and members of this
! organization, arc drawn into and
participate m the comment,
As I have before stated, insur-
gents. Republicans, Democrats
Socialists—w h a t-n o t—all look
alike, or should look alike, to the
farmers of this country and,
phatically so, to the members of
the Farmers’ union.
The test is found, not in the
label by which a man classifies
bis politics, but in his bona fide
actions, the faithfulness with which
lie makes promises square with
performance, the fidelity with
which he keeps his contract with
the people.
In ordinary business and social
relations we condemn the man
who is guilty of breach of contract
or bad faith, oven of duplicity
when it comes to carrying out his
agreement.
The same rule, unchanged by
the dotting of av "I,” should rule
in politics.
It makes no difference to what
party a congressman or a legisla¬
tor, a governor or a sheriff owes
his allegiance, if lie disregards the
pledges lie lias made to his consti¬
tuents or, by silence and inaction,
aligns himself agaiust their best
interest.
We are going to get results in
the way of reform in this country
when the voter is as vigilant in his
watch upon the officeholder as lie
is in bis activities during cam¬
paigns
Therefore, 1 hold it as merely
the dictates of common sense that
it is our duty to keep dose watch
on congress and its guiding forces,
whether administered by the
parties now visible or thos° that
may arrive at some time in the
future.
Examine the man, rather than
the party.
It will profit you nothing if you
elect a Democrat in place of a Re¬
publican. or an insurgent in place
a standpatter, if you notice no
gain in service from the change.
The trouble is, the average
farmer —city man, for that matter
puts anew man in office at the
high tide of a wave of ilissatisfac- j
tion and then forgets. As a result.
nine times out of ten. lie finds his
unwatched representative
replacing sooner or later and
is all the excitement and delay
endure again.
The day the American
realizes this principle and realizes,
additionally, that he can
any legislative program by un¬
ceasing demands upon bis repre¬
sentatives. we will see the farmers
of this country rescued from the
neglect visited upon them by the
government for many years.
I urge upon you to keep in per¬
sonal touch with your representa
tive or senator, relative to those
measures favored by this organiza¬
tion.
Failure to secure results in
legislation is due almost as much
to the failure of the constituent
to indulge in prodding as to thr
tendency of the officeholder snore
on his job.
Charles S. Barrett.
