Breeders 0 rgarvize
At the meeting of Georgia Live
and Dairy Association at Athens
January 17—18, a number of the
Berkshire breeders of the State
met and organized the Georgia
Berkshire Association.
The following officers were elect-
ed.
President—Mr. LAV Jarman,
Porterdale, Ga.
Vice President—Prof. H.P. Lykes
Experiment Station, Experiment,
Ga.
Secretary-Treasurer—Mr. C.W.
Fowler, Marietta, Ga.
Much enthusiasm was manifested
by the breeders present and an ear¬
nest effort will be made for better
premiums and better accommoda¬
tions at the fairs, especially the
State Fair, and to secure an ap.
propriation from the Legislature
for the manufacture of serum
for prevention of hog cholera.
These and many other laudable
objects may be attained by a good
active organization and we expect
the Georgia Berkshire Association
to make itself felt in advancing the
hog interest of the State. Too much
importance can not be attached to
the necessity of State providing se¬
rum for the prevention of loss by
hog cholera. This is strictly a State
work as yet the individual can not
obtain and use the serum. The
cost to the individual, while uot too
high to pay, is too high to permit
of the rapid introduction of this
means of of preventing the great¬
est obstacle to hog raising.
Traveling Auditor John Ottley,
of the A.B.&A, ,with headquarters
iu Atlanta, spent several days here
recently.
