The classic charge of the Hon.
U. V. Whipple to the Grand Jury
perhaps outlined the duties of
that body more concisely than
any we have ever had the privilege
of listening to. As the Poet
Philosopher Heine Expressed it,
“The dreams that Nations dream,
come true” so the judge would im¬
press his hearers that the dreamer
blazes the way, setting the idealist’s
dream of better men and more
perfect law-enforcement as the
ultima to be attained by every
community. Men who have a
studious mind and busy themselves
with the abstract affairs of their
community or state and as a rule
are tagged “cranks,” by the
thoughtless, their motives being
generally misunderstood. It is
refreshing to find in the person of
our Judge, one who sees the niche
filled by the dreamer who would
aspire to add his mite to the bet¬
terment of bis time. It's the
dreamers that have marked the
epochs of all time and their dreams
are the realities of today. The
dreamers of the morrow will leave
their impress as surely as those of
by-gone days.
Congress has convened for the
special session called by the Presi¬
dent to carry into effect the pro¬
posed reciprocity compact between
Canada and the United States.
Free Trade Democrats as well as
those who think it necessary to
levie an import duty for the de¬
fraying of Government expenses
only, can givethis recommendation
of our Republican Executive their
full support. Lumber and food
stuffs are the articles most affect¬
ed by this proposed treaty and as
the result will lower the cost to
the actual consumer, it is hoped
the measure will become a law.
Brantley is the only one of the
Georgia delegation to Congress
who has opposed the measure,
due to his fellow feeling for Can¬
non and the standpat Republicans.
The people of the 11th. district
will be ready to send a Representa¬
tive to Congress by the next elec¬
tion, who is more in touch with
the interests of masses than the
classes.
_
The visit of the state president
of the F'armers Union on the llth.
is of great importance to the mem
bers of the Union in Ben Hill
County. A large attendance of
all farmers is desirable, as Mr.
Cabaniss is a forcefull speaker and
has a message for the farmer. It
is undeniable that the influence of
the Union has been felt in the in¬
crease of the market value of all
farm products and though not ail
farmers as yet belong to the Union
yet all have shared in the benefits
the Union kas been able to get for
the Farmer. Education and Co-
Operation are gieat helpmates
and the Union has demonstrated
their value to the Farmer.
The many friends of Miss Flora-
belle Stearnes, who intended leav¬
ing today for her home in the
north, will be delighted to know
that she has decided to remain in
the south another month. She
now at the home of Mrs.
Shallenberger, having moved from
Mrs. Murdock’s.
