Roosevelt Pra.ises
Miss Berry’s Boys
New York, April 26—Martha
Berry, who nine years ago gather-
ed a few “One suspender boys”
gether in a log cabin near
Ga., for a Sunday school lesson
and Colonel Theodore Roosevelt,
who is much interested in the
Berry school which she founded,
addressed a meeting here in the
interest of the Berry School Asso¬
ciation.
Colonel Roosevelt spoke of the
fine work he had found Miss
Berry’s schools doing in the back-
woods sections of the south, where
he said the type of boys was the
finest in the country, ‘.their faces
showing the rugged strength and
character of such men as Lincoln
and Jackson.”
Miss Berry, known as “the
day Lady of Possum Trot” told of
conditions in the backwoods sec-
tions and of her work and Judge
Wright, of Georgia, and Dr.
bert Shaw, pleaded for aid to,ex-
tend it.

Fathers’ Day To
Be June 18th
Mrs. John B. Dodd, of Spokane.
j Wash., originator of “Fathers'
Day,” is making
through clubs in various parts of
the United States for a national
celebration on Sunday, June 16,
when those who desire to show
their respect for “dad” will wear a
rose, a colored flower for the living
and white for the dead. Mrs. Dodd
succeeded in interesting several
thousand men, women and children
in the Northwestern country in ob-
serving the day last year, when
some of the local ministers preach-
ed special sermons, extolling the
worth and virtues of ‘the old man.’
Since then the Spokane women
have received sheaves of letters
from prominent men and women
in various parts of the country,
including governors of thirty-eight
1 states and executive officials at
J Washington, D. C, commending
Jue plan and urging her to contin-
| the campaign with a view to
making the celebration a national
event. So far more than 100 cities
have decided to join in celebration
and Mrs. Dodd expects there will
j be more than 3,000 in line this
year.—Woman’s National Weekly.
