Avidiior's Report Ben Hill County. 1911.
(Continued from Page 1.)
If we put against the current deficit taxes accrued to date, but payable :n liO
full, the county’s finances would bo shown in a very satisfactory condition.
Right here it is proper for us to say that wo found records in office cf the
County Board of Commissioners in good shape. We feel that the Board should
be commended for its wisdow in selecting a clerk of intelligence and ability,
and one who takes an interest in kcpjping things right. He has a clear, concise
record of the county’s business, and clerical work was found correct.
Willis Smith, Tax Collector (Exhibits E-l-2-3-4-5.)
On Exhibit “E-l” we give yoij tentative statement of general county tax. In
this statement we have thought it wise to allow credit for collector s commis
Riocs on total amount collected jp order to bring down net balance due county
by collector on account of coljgc(ions fo date of our statement On Exhibit E-2
we follow the same plan an regards bakui < 0 due State and on Exhibit E-3 give
statement of county school tax. We make balances duo by Mr. Smith cn w
counts cf collections already made, as follows:
Hxbibit B-l, County General Tax $ 742.11
Exhibit E-2, State General Tax . 838.88
Exhibit E 3, County School Tax 315.34
Making iv total due of $1,896.33
As against above balance, Mr. Smith brought in a certificate of Amer
ican State Bank, dated Apr:l 11, 1911, showing balance to his '-redit

*2,000 in the Third National Bank to credit of IV. L. Smith, T. This deposit
was, as we are informed, made cn April !5th.
While Mr. Smith has until April 20th in which to make his final settlement.,
he should promptly turn over to the Treasurer, as required by law, the county’s
part of all tax collected You arc paying interests on money borrowed from
banks and should receive your revenue promptly in order to reduce this ex
pence.
On Exhibit i < E 4 ’ ’ we give you list of tax collected not on digest and not
entered on digest an < < N. O. 1), eolleetions. We checked receipts in detail
against digest and so arrived at list of errors and omissions shown
On Exhibit t i EG” we give you list of allowances on account of errors in di¬
gest. TbesS have net been allowed by commissioners, but we satisfied ourselves
as to allowance being proper.
On Exhibit "E 6 ; > we give you list of defaulters relieved, This list is sup-
ported by signed orders of the commissioners for such relief.
As the arrangement is for our representative to return and check over final
settlement of your Tax Collector, we do not give you detail of allowenees for ii
