With Out Good Roads
A party of prominent men from
Hazlfeburst, in Jeff Davis County
were in the city this week on a
good roads and convict camp in-
spection tour. The party consist-
ed of Ordinary Henry Cook, Clerk
of the Court J. L. Cook, County
Commissioner R. A. Cook, Dr. J.
M. Hall, and Messrs. J. M. Hin-
son, J. L. Herrington, W. T. Pat-

The gentlemen had visited other
counties' besides Ben Hill, and
made the statement that they found
our roads in a better condition that
any they have seen so far, and in-
deed were very liberal with their
praise of the good work Ben Hill
is doing in the road-buidling line.
Mr. Milton Cohen, midshipman
at the Naval Academy at Annapo-
lis. Md., is in the city, spending a
three weeks’ vacation with his
parents, Dr. and Mrs. M. S. Cohen.

The purpose of the meeting was
not fully achieved, on account of
the fact that time was brief and
many were compelled to leave be-
fore the subscription list was op-
ened. . However, this obstacle
will be easily overcome, as a com-
mittee was appointed to make a
personal canvass of several of our
moneyed citizens who have not
yet lent any support to the move-
ment, and there will be no difficul-
ty in raising the remaining$8,000.
Fitzgerald will get the road, and
all who place Itheir money in
it, will profit from the investment.
Mr. J. A. J. Henderson, owner of
the Ocilia Southern is ready to be-
gin work on the extension just as

County Commissioners met the above date with J. G Minshew,
H. M. Warren and Wesley R. Walker present, J. G. Minshew pre-
siding. The following business was transacted to wit: the minutes of
April 4-10-12 were read and adopted on motion of W. K Walker,
The matter of David Clements charged with double tax on (10) acre
j tarct No. (2303 for the year (1910) that an order be given on W. L.
Smith to refund said tax, the amount of which is $1.90. motion carried,
on motion of W, R. Walker, second by J. G. Minshew, that the road
law be investigated by our County attorney and that the District road

nating fund to assist in the building of them a home be submitted to

On motion of Wesley R- Walker, second by H, M. Warren that
tlns board allow the Leader Pub. Co. and the Enterprise Pub. Co.
$15.00 each for publishing the auditors report. Motion if carried,
On motion Wesley R. Walker. J. W. Ridge was given an order re¬
funding the double tax on lot 4233-42$* the amount of which is $3.04.
On motion of H. M. Warren, Mrs. D. E. Welker was given an order
refunding the double tax on tracts No. 166-167-168. The amount of
which is $2.70. Motion carried. On motion of H. M. Warren,
second by J. G. Minshew that James M. Bradley be placed on County
pauper list. Motion carried. W esley Li. Walker voting no on the
grounds that from a legal standpoint the board could not do so. That
said James M, Bradley is the owner of a good (5) acre tract and that
his family is able t to work and that . so 1 long as . the , of
a man is owner
real estate he cannot be considered legally a pauper. But may be an
object of charity,
On motion of H. M.-Warren, seconded'by J. G. Minshew that
the roads advertised on March 14th and read this May 2nd, be receiv¬
ed aDd legalized there being no objection filed. Motion Carried,
On motion of H. M. Warren, second by J. G. Minshew, that the
reviewers report on the Alapaha new petitioned road be received and
advertised. Motion carried. Weslev R. Walker voting No for the
reasons that the last graad jury recommended that no more new roads
be considered until all of the old ones have been worked.
On motion of H. M. Warren, second by J. G. Minshew that the
following report on new roads be received and advertised, report on
the Arp road, report on Meaker road. Motion carried.
On motion of Wesley E. Walker, second b, H, M. Warren that
the county purchase (2) registered blood Hounds. (Motion caaried.)
On motion of H. M. Warren, Second by J. G. Minshew that the
Ashburn road be worked next. Motion carried.
On motion of H. M. Warren the following bills were allowed and

Notwithstanding the rather
threatening aspect of the weather,
the court house was full to orer-
flowing last evening, when the
High School held the literary
exercises of their commencement
program.
There were seven high school
diplomas delivered, three com-
mercial diplomas and nine cona-
roercial certificates.
The graduates and those who re¬
ceived certificates sat inside the
bar, and on the rostrum with the
orator of the occassion, Dr. John
E. White, of Atlanta, were:
Superintendent E. E. Sams, Prof.
Ritchie, Rev, Holtingworth, Rev,
Fisher and Rev, Hammond.
There were three speakers from
the graduating class, Miss Ed ward
Perkins, and Miss Inez Dorminey,
and Mr. Jarrett Pryor. The essays
by the young ladies and the decla¬
mation by the young man wero
pronounced by many as being as
fine as if not superior in maDy re¬
spects to any they had ever heard
from High school graduates.
Invocation was by Rev. E. J.
Hammond, pastor of First M. E.
church, the benediction pronounc¬
ed by Rev. E. E. Efollingworth, of
the Christian church, and the
speaker was introduced by Rev.
Guyton Fisher.
The theme of Miss Dorminey’s
essay was “Possibilities of fch»
Aeroplane:/’ Mias Perkins’ theme
was -“Lest We • Forget;” and the
subject of Mr. Pryor’s declamation
was, “Conservation of Our Natural
Resources,”
Several musical numbers, under
the direction of Miss Hazel Voim*
were also enjoyed. '41
Dr. White’s address to the grad¬
uates was characterized by much-
sound advice and philosophy, and
was delivered in the characteristic
pleasing.and impressive manner of
the great divine. The many deep
thoughts expressed by Dr. White
were not only for the bench t of
tre graduates, but for all who lis¬
tened to him.
The diplomas were delivered to»-
graduates by Mr. J. E. Turner,
president of the Board of Educa¬
tion, who in doing so, congratu¬
lated the students and spoke words
of encouragement to them, after
which the benediction was pro
nounced by Rev. Hollingworth,

Are Building Nest
The Fitzgerald Nest of Qwls
have leased the second floor of the
Renard Building, corner Central
avenue and Grant street and just
as soon as the work of repairing
and remodelling to a certain extent
is finished, it will be fitted up for
regular lodge quarters. Until that
time, the Owls will continue to
hold their meetings first and third
