Jury Exemptions May
Be Sold By Military
Atlanla, Jan 8 —A ruling made
oday by Attorney General Feld?*
will prove of much interest to mil¬
itary organizations in this state,
as well as those who want to buy
jury exemptions.
The commanding officer of one
at the battallions in the state wrote
Adjutant General Obear asking if
a company commander could
a jury exemption to a persou out-
side of the county in which the
company was located, and if such
exemption would relieve the pur¬
chaser from jury duty in any
county in the state.
General Obear referred this
query to the attorr ey general who
ruled that there was nothing in
the law to prevent the sale of jury
exemptions by military companies
to persons residing anywhere with¬
in the confines of the state, and
that the purchasers would he ex¬
empt fiom jury duty, road or streei
tax in any local or state court in
the state of Georgia.
Thin will make it possible now
for military companies to sell their
jury exemotions anywhere in the
state, giving companies in small
towns a special advantage in that
particular.
Under the law each military
company in the state is entitled to
thirty days exemptions at $25
each, and the sale of these 1ms
proven a big help to the organize
tiops. According to the ri< w rul
ing a company in Biob county can
sell its exemptions in any counry
in ne state, and the holder will
onj y all its benefits.
Ailjutant General Obear receiv
ed notice today that the war
paument has assigned
army officers for the annual in-
speetion of the national guard
the state as follows:
Lieutenant E. R. McCabe, who

I know a farmer whose wealth
is estimated at forty or fifty thous¬

stock, drives a fine turnout and
whose farm presents a prosperous
appearance. I had occasion to eui)
upon the sick wile confined toh> t
room. No experience has evei
b**en more shocking tl an the
sight of that bed room. The room
was a scene of tilth and discom-
fort, flies swarmed, a sweltering
sun beat upon the windows pro¬
tected only by a set of ragged,
useless shades; there was insufii-
cient bed linen for even aprelease
of neatness or comfort forthesick

the discomfort and disorder which
reigned supreme.—Miss Stevens,
