Boys and Girls of Ben Hill County
Last year the Leader organized a Corn Contest for the
“Men” farmers of Ben Hill County, to which the business
men of Fitzgerald contiibuted a large fund. These “grown-
ups” were a complete failure, from the standpoint of corn
raisers. The largest yield, per acre was only sixty-live
bushels and we know that they didn’t do their best.
The Leader is anxious to demonstrate to the world at
large and to the farmers of Ben Hill County, that our soil
can do better than that; and will undertake to raise a fund
for a Boys and Girls’ Corn Contest.
The Leader requests every rural teacher to organize a
Boys and Girls’ Corn Club at the school house, and actus
president of the club.
There will be no charge for entering the contest and
the crop will belong to the one making it, so you are,
the gainer by it anyway, even if you don’t win a prize.
The following rules will govern the Contest:
1 . Any boy or girl in Ben Hill county over ten
< dd and who will not be over 21 years old when the crop is
harvested is eligible to enter the contest.
2. There is no entrance fee required but application
tor entry must be in the hands of Isidor Gelders of the
Leader, not later than March 1st, 1912. Just send a letter
or postal card giving name, postoftice and age (give date of
birthday.)
The prizes will be given for crops of corn grown on
i measured acre of land in Ben Hill County and must be
*rown by the contestant.
4. Contestants may seek and accept advice regarding
all matters concerning corn growing, but each contestant
must plant his crop and do his own work, except that a
small boy or girl may hire help for heavy plowing in break¬
ing the land.
5. The land and corn must be carefully measured in
the presence of two disinterested witnesses who shall sign
a certificate showing the result of the measurement.
This is your opportunity, boys and girls, to show what
you can do with soil, sunshine, and industry. The prizes
will be announced as soon as the Corn Clubs have been
organized at the different schools.

Safe Management
There is one thing above all things that the
public demands and what this bank proposes to
do, that is to conduct a. SAFE BANK. We would
rather make less profits and run safe. We be¬
lieve our rem.arka.ble first year’s record was
the result of the confidence the public had in
our management and the carefulness of our
board of directors.
We have every facility for handling the
banking business in all it’s various capacities,
with experienced men acquainted with the
needs of its customers. We are ready at all
times to go out of our way to do a service and
a great deal of our work is done gratuitously,
such as the collecting of notes, looking after
private business and in other ways we endeav¬
or to show our appreciation of the public’s bus¬
iness atid our willingness to serve them.
We propose to make 1912 a RECORD
BREAKER for business and you can watch
us grow this year.
We invite the account of every citizen of
Ben Hill County and adjoining counties. We
shall be glad to receive your business through
the mail which will have our careful attention
just as if you were here to look after it.
Nearly S00 accounts, already on our books,
each one a depositor. For a bank a little over a
year old, this shewing is truly remarkable,
All we ask of you is a trial and we are sure
you will be pleased with the service rendered
vou.
We invite you to patronize our SAVINGS
DEPARTMENT, where we allow you 4 per
cent interest. We wilFgive a beautiful little
bank to each child who starts an account of
$1.00 or over, to encourage the children to
save.
REMEMBER, we appreciate your busi¬
ness and are anxious to do all we can to make
it perfectlv satisfactory. ONCE A CUSTOM¬
ER- ALWAYS A FRIEND of this bank.
