The last meeting of the Wo
man’s Club continued the study
of the year, the subject of the
afternoon being in the hands of
the “Outlook Committee.”’
Mrs. E. J. Dorminy read a pa
per on the work of Sovonarola as
compared to that of modern re
formers. Mrs. C. A. Holtzendorf
gave an interesting account of
the political conditions at the
time of Savonarola’s work, and
Mrs. C. E. Baker wrote of the
life and character of the man
}pln_gelf. Mrs. Baker being ab
sent, her paper was read by Mre,
Lee. There was no business (f
importance before the club, but
it is well to mention here that
the results of the combined ef
forts of the eight 'societies who
took up the matter of cleaning
the city, is satisfactory. One
inspector reported that in one
ward there was just one place
that looked as though it had re
ceived no attention.

~ The Fitzgerald Fire Depart

from total destruction yesterday
on the A. B. & A. siding. |
' The fact that the carload of
' matches had become ignited was
| discovered by a switchman when
' the freight passed in the rear of
the City Hall. The switchman
first notified the Fire Depart
ment and then flagged the train
at a point near the Central Ave
nue crossing.
The Fire Department did a
|good job, fighting the fire and
brimstone, and managed to save
about two-thirds of the car'oad.
The fire started bv a rin in
one of the cars, working out and
rubbing against a box of matches
until same became ignited.
