Letters To Santa Claus

Dear Old Santa Clause:
lam a little boy 5 years old
and I live near a big old river.
Old Santa please bring me a big
goat as big as a mule, a little red
wagon, some fruit of all kind,
and please don’t forget my little
brother he wants a train, an auto
mobile and fruit.

For a Million Bales of U. S.
Cotton.
New Orleans, Dec. 13:-Announce
ment was made today’s session here
of State Presidents of Farmers Un
ions that the association has in its
possession a bona fide offer from one
of the chief warring nations of Eu
rope to buy one million bales of
cotton at twenty cents a pound.
The offer is for the middling grade.
A committee composed of H. N.
Pope, D. E. Dyday and Peter Rad
ford, all of Texas, was appointed to
confer with government officials at
Washington in an effort to obtain |
protection for the shipment. It was
said the cotton would be sold and
forwarded under the supervision of
‘the Farmers Co-operative and Edu
cational Union, and that each cot
ton state would furnish a portion of
the shipment. The offer, it was
stated, specified that the cotton was
to be used for domestic purposes
only and it was declared the shige
ment would be assembled in New
Orleans for early delivery. It was
said the belligerent government
agreed to the appointment by the
United States government of a com
mittee to accompany the shipment
and see that the cotton is not used
in the manufacture of amunition
Officials witheld the identity of the
prospective purchaser.
Attempt Made To
~ Burn Warehouse
Atlanta, Dec. 13.-—Reportslof
an attempt to burn a cotton
warehouse in Cherokee county
early to-day reached here to
night, Following anonymous
notices to employers to discharge
negroes in their employ, fires
have caused approximately $90,-
000 loss in Chreokee county with
in the past week. The ware
house was saved with only small
loss, but evidence was discover
ed, it was said, to show that oil
had been thrown on parts of the
building.
No arrests have yet been made,
nor have local police been able to
find a drove of fifteen mules said
to have been stolen and brought
here from a large barn which:
was burned. The state has of
fered $250 reward for the first‘
arrest and conviction in the case
of those responsible for the fires.
The boys’ dormitory at Rhine
hart College at Waleska, in the
same county, was destroyed by
fire early to-day with alloss esti
mated at $6,500, partially cover
ed by insurance. The fire, how
ever, was said to have been
caused by a defective flue, The
thirty-two inmates of the dormi
tory escaped. :

the poison separated by boiling
made dogs immune.
