School News
The biggest thing that ever
happened to the whole high
school happened Friday in the
way of a kind of reception. The
high school students had been
told to come back to school Fri
day afternoon for a test in praec
tical arithmetic, The grades
met in the Junior high school
rooms down stairs shortly after
two o’clock and whiled away a
few minutes singing old familiar
mellodies. Thken Dr. Ford came
in to the different rooms and dis
tributed cute Xmas favors which
the boys pinned on the girls and
vice versa. Then our new fire
a'arm screeched and the classes
formed line and marched up
stairs in order.
When we reached the studyl
hall we had the first shock. All
the two hurdred desks had been|
removed and the walls and
blackboards decorated with Xmas
emblems. Dr. Ford and Miss
Geddes then led a grand marceh to
the tune of “‘Hit the Line for
Fitz-Hi,”” Miss Margaret Spiller
playing the mus’e on our piano.
We then sang the ‘‘Alma Mater”’
song and the football song and
gave a couple of cheers.
The next thing we did was to
stndy geometry. Large sheets
of heavy paper were passed out
and some small scissors. Every
one cut his sheet into some de-

made caps of white paper, under
the direction of Dr. Ford, and
decorated them with red paper
ribbons making them something
like a Turkish fez. We then
studied anatomy. Dr. Ford ask

turkey. This turkey program
was probably to celebrate the
Turkish successes at the Darde

Then came the Arithmetic.
Talley cards with pencils attach

Dr.. Ford presented her with a

| Senator Otis H. Elkins and Col.
Alex Koplin, the leading attorneys
for the defense of Clark Warren, of
Abbeville, charged with the murder
of his wife, secured an acquittal for
their client Friday in the Wilcox
Superior Court. The case was strong
ely contested by the State’s Attorney,
Col. J. B. Wall, assisted by Cols.
Land and Eaks of Cordele.
The State alleged that Warren
broke the neck of his wife, and in
troduced the examining physician,
who held the post mortem examina-
Ition. The defense also introduced
expert testimony, several doc
tois averring that the supposed
break in the neck, the first joint,
could have been the natural cavity,
which is supposed to exist at that
point. The defense succeeding in
making the jury seeing it in that
light, and thus secured an acquittal.
' The public sentiment was strong
ly inflamed against the defendant
so that the court held him in custo
dy in jail until Saturday morning,
when he left Abbeville on an early
train. Assisting Cols. Elkins and
Koplin were Cols. Hal Lawson and
Caunon.
